Need You Now/Eye in the Sky

btw every song posted in this thread is based on the simple V I cadence, which is the first thing they teach you in music theory 101. The Sheryl Crow song is I IV V which is a slight variation(and the basis of the blues, every Green Day song ever made, etc). Pretty much every pop song is a V I, ii V I or I IV V.

which is why steely dan owns...but thats for another thread

:hand: Not so fast. Steely Dan is certainly a step up from modern pop, but they don't step out of the box much.

Google 'ultimate mash ups' and you'll see a lot of cool combinations - because ultimately it's all the same. Eminem/Shakira, 50 cent/Bee Gees, Missy Elliot/Metallica, Jay-z/The Verve, etc.

It's easy to focus on rappers as people that 'rip off' other music but that's only because they tend to be monotoned and distinguish themselves through rhythm and articulation. The way I see it is rappers are to rock/r&b musicians as jazz musicians are(were) to classical musicians. Sometimes I feel my musical snobbishness coming through and have to force myself to step back and look at the big picture.

I think this mash up is awesome on many levels.
