I like Carter a lot but after this years draft we will have dug ourselves out of the Bryce trade draft capital hole. Let's not celebrate that by picking up the shovel and starting to dig again.

Not to mention that he isn't one of these "generational" tagged pass rushers. He just happens to be the perceived best of a bunch that is lacking in obvious elite prospects.

IMO, there is only one guys worth trading up for in this draft(not saying this as a Panthers statement, saying it as a general statement) and that is Travis Hunter. Outside injury, I don't see it being very likely that he does not end up being a top 10 player at CB.

For the Panthers, I wouldn't even consider trading up for him. We have too many needs. We need more picks, not less.

Plenty of top tier NFL pass rushers weren't considered generational talents. Micah Parsons was a tweener drafted outside the top 10.  Nik Bonitto was a 2nd rounder. Trey Hendrickson and Jonathan Greenard were 3rd rounders.  Maxx Crosby was a 4th rounder.

I'm not really pounding the table or sounding the alarm (outside of Shemar "looks like Tarzan plays like Jane" Stewart) for anyone this year I just hope we end up with a really good player at #8.

Yes but that post was in the context of trading up. If you are trading up inside the top 10 of the draft, you need to be very sure about what you are doing.

Carter isn’t that, IMO.

There's no way I'm trading up in this draft with all of our roster needs, period. We don't need one star. We just need a talent infusion across the board.

Agree. Still NEED a starter at FS. Could use a speed pass rushing specialist. And a YAC receiving threat - be it WR, TE or RB. Preferably WR. Man McCaffrey and Moore would be huge right now.

The problem with your specific scenario is that if Sanders is still available and the Giants are really putting the pick up for trade, you're going to open up a bidding war for Sanders and that's going to raise the price way too much.

A much better question is if the same scenario unfolds but the Giants take Sanders, do you try to trade up with the Patriots at 4? The Patriots biggest need is offensive line and 4 is a bit rich for this OL class, while 8 would be the sweet spot and would still put them in front of most all OL needy teams. What would it cost to move from 8 to 4? If the price is right, then I think you consider it then. But probably not for anything more than 8, 57 and maybe a day 3 pick.
