All the warning signs were there. There were talking about this kid in Sports Illustrated at 15. He would have been the 1st overall pick without ever stepping onto a college campus had he been able. But the Sam Bowie thing was hanging there for everybody to see. Durant had skills. Everybody knew he could score the ball. Everybody knew he was dominant at his position.... but unfortunately his position is not as important as the center position so the Blazers went with Oden despite the injury concerns.

I remember reading a Bill Simmons column that predicted this exactly. He talked about how he met Oden at a hotel and he walked like a 60 year old man already. Baseball scouts, more than anybody, have a description of a player called "face". Does a player have a good face or not. What it means is that is the player chubby in the face, does he look younger than he is in the face, does he have lazy facial features..... you can read a lot about a person and how they will grow if you really study their face. Oden had BAD face from day 1 and everybody knew it. They just didn't want to believe it.

good/bad face n: 1 having an either strong or weak chin 2 having a face that implies athleticism or a hard-nosed attitude toward sports; primarily used by older rather than younger scouts. “You sometimes have to fight to get some scouts past a guy with a bad face. I thought it was crazy, but there’s something to it. You see almost no one in the big leagues with a bad face.” (Eddie Bane)

I saw an interview with B Simmons and he was describing that same scenerio watching Oden walk. Such a shame for Oden, but the dude cashed in and was very smart to go Pro ASAP. This would have been his what junior or senior year....he hit the iron while his stock was high. If he cant revive his career, he needs to be smart with his money/fame and make something of himself.
