This is all Hurney's fault for drafting a QB to Late

After Delhomne got hurt in 07 Hurney should have drafted a QB but no he just kept on ignoring it, so F him he should be fired. Now instead of drafting a Qb to learn from a vet we have Clausen learning from nobody. We will have at least 3 more bad years just to catch up to everyone else in our division because their will be 3 elite Qbs in our division for at least 5 more years, longer if brees keeps playing and what do we got NOTHING IM SO F%$%^% PISSED OFF:yesnod:

With out beating this dead horse too much, Flacco was the only real QB that we had a shot at that turned out OK, so this is kind of a resurrected but still silly thread.

I liked it better when it was "Hurney will NEVER draft a QB high."

Let's also take a look at the original projections for Flacco. Most boards had him rated behind Henne and Brohm, and as a solid second rounder. If we had taken him with our pick at 13, the same people who are now saying we should have drafted him would have screamed bloody murder.

Brohm and Henne were both gone by the time we picked again.

So, we could have had a tremendous reach for a guy who wouldn't have played for at least a year, or we could have had Jonathan Stewart. In hindsight, it looks like it would have been a good idea, but the same can be said about most picks. At the time, what we did was smart.

Recycled post for a recycled subject.

QB's "passed up" in the first and second rounds:

02 - Harrington and Ramsey passed over for Peppers

03 - Boller and Grossman passed over for Gross

04 - No real prospects here. Losman was the closest at 22. We got Gamble instead

05 - Rodgers and Campbell passed over for Davis.

06 - Clemens and T Jackson passed over for Williams

07 - Quinn and Kolb passed up for Beason (and Kalil)

08 - Flacco and Brohm (2nd) passed up for Stewart and Otah

09 - Pat White for Everette Brown

Might be recycled, but the truth remains, Hurney has dodged more bullets than not with his first round drafting. Not to mention a ton of guys in the second and third rounds that also never worked out as QBs for the teams they were drafted by.

It's a lot like canteloupes... very rarely do people know how to pick a good one, but if you can't do that, it's really important to be able to NOT pick a bad one. He's done well at that and that list above has some very good names on it that we did take instead.

Can't blame Hurney for that. Nor for the QB coaching. And we have stayed out of Cap Room Hell throughout his tenure... although there has been some tap dancing now and then.

There was no way to know Carr wouldn't work out. He had all the ability in the world. Just couldn't get it together. Not making an honest attempt for a franchise QB is inexcusable. Think Brees wouldn't have come here if we had tried?

    • At this rate, maybe he'll be a decent 8-9 QB on his 3rd HC by year 6. Standards are so low around here now. Tepper has done some serious damage to the fan base.
