Question for Harbaugh / Luck fans...

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

i'm a huge luck slurper... but harbaugh is the sexy coach option... but he might not work out... but then again luck might not pan out...

screw you for making me choose, I have thought about this all day and can't give you an answer...

I'll just say if we get either, I'll be happy, but if we get both, I might jizz in my pants.

We don't need another QB, we have already invested two picks in QBs... What we need is the right coaching staff to get Clausen to where he needs to be.

I can't believe so many people are ready to give up on Clausen after one season being in the league.

I don't think it is as simple as giving up on Clausen. Well, of course there are the haters that refuse to even consider the posssibility that Clausen may improve, and are rooting for him to fail. But I think for most it's a combination of things.

First of all, there's no question that Clausen has been dissappointing, even to his most ardent supporters (and I am one that feels like Clausen will be a very good QB once he settles down and gets comfortable with the speed of the NFL). And this offense in general has been really bad. So most people are looking for any ray of hope they can find. But with Clausen not showing much thus far, many are not as confident as they were that he offers that hope. Additionally, Luck does have a higher ceiling than Clausen (bigger stature, stronger arm, plus many of the same positive attributes Clausen had at ND).

In a WCO, I do believe that Clausen can flourish and become a very good QB, but I think Luck can be great in any offense...at least based on the limited times I have seen him play and what people are saying about him. So bottom line, I think it's about Clausen not clearly showing that he can be the QB of the future yet, and Luck seeming to have all the traits to be special. Personally, I will be fine either way, as long as Clausen shows some signs (which he began to do this past week).

agreed and well said.

adding to that...a lot has to do with who we have as the next head coach. if the new coach thinks that clausen is worth hanging onto and someone they can build an offense around, i'm willing to wait and see. however, if the new coach wants to take advantage of someone that they believe is more likely able to be one of the best QBs in the league, then i am very cool with that as well.

luck has a higher ceiling, imo, than clausen. clausen can be a good QB in the right system. luck can be much more than that. i'm willing to consider the clausen and pike picks as a waste and trade them off if it means being able to have someone who can be one of the elite QBs in the league for years to come. opportunities like that don't come very often.

Rofl, trade them to who? for what? to the bills for a 6th rounder for clausen and a UDFA for Pike? Get real. Thats not bashing either, thats saying no gm would make a deal.

This is a really nice cop-out seeing as he is making his wr corp a lot better than they really are, calls his own plays--which would negate Jeff Davidson's shitty gameplan, and has a quick release and makes very quick decisions which takes a ton of pressure off of the no-names blocking for him, outside of his center.

Ok, well, Rofl at the morons that don't realize only Payton Manning could succeed in our offense.

Better?

i was more meaning just clausen than pike. clausen would have some trade value, but i doubt it would be near the pick we got him at. it all depends on how well he does the rest of the season, i would suspect. he could do well in a WCO, some team wanting a project but not wanting to spend a pick in the first couple rounds might want to take clausen. it can happen.

Harbaugh easily. People forget the fantastic job he did with Josh Johnson at SD. JJ in ever year he started had at least a 168 QB rating and in his senior year threw 42 tds to only 1 int (and that bounced off a receivers hands). Albeit not against a high level of competition but still great coaching.

I don't think Luck would be nearly what he is without Harbaugh and I am confident Harbaugh can succeed without him.

It's impossible to tell if he would make a good NFL QB or not, but that's true with nearly all college QBs. College level defense is terrible compared to the pros. Luck in no way looks like an elite QB to me, but could he play on the level of a QB like Eli Manning? I think so. Sometimes Luck looks like he's heaving a Thanksgiving turkey out there. Luck sort of reminds me of Eli, so here's an clip of Eli in college:

Luck doesn't have a cannon for an arm, but he's seems to put a nice touch on the ball. Eli has made a career out of playing smart and using his accuracy and touch. I wonder if Luck can do the same?

Im one who hasn't given up on Clausen, I just don't see anything wrong having a potential Brees/Rivers situation. Nothing wrong with insuring the most important position IMO. However, I do believe Luck is and would end up being the better of the two.
