As a hardcore Panthers fan, it is difficult for me to submit this idea, but the reality is we can't keep both DeAngelo and Stewart in the long run. If we try, the chances are we will lose one of them to free agency and not get anything in return for them. (Like we did with Peppers) Also, the way things are going now, their value might depreciate the longer we keep them. An average life of a good running back is around four years.

Here is my thinking, Goodson showed he can be a number one running back. So we promote Goodson to number two, and trade away one of our current number one and two backs. I believe Williams contract is up after this season, someone correct me if I'm wrong. Williams may be the more durable back, so I say we re-sign him and trade Stewart for a 1st round pick in the upcoming draft.

I say trade Stewart, he's always hurt and hasn't practiced or played in any preseason game yet. He's only had one good season but that has a lot to do with our O-line too. We should resign D. Will, keep Goodson as #2 backup to split carries with D. Will and Sutton as #3. We should at least get a 2nd round for Stewart, 3rd at the worst. I just don't think that Stewart has very good work ethic. You've all seen him give out of gas on a breakout run, or stumble on a run after a wide open reception. Trade him and resign D. Will!

Most teams won't trade for Williams. He is hurt right now making him less desirable and they would want to sign him longtime before trading for him knowing he is going to be a free agent. He might be easy to sign given he might want to test the waters to see what he is worth before settling down for a team. And most teams would rather save the pick and take the chances on signing him to a free agent contract.

Stewart has a history of imjury issues and hasn't shown that he veru durable, I doubt we would get much for him.

So really the answer is neither are as desirable as people here think, and honestly they wouldn't be worth as much as folks think. They are both best here with us.

But can we afford both? They'll both want big money. And if we can, is it worth locking up so much money into the RBs? We really need just one, and a decent #2.
