Yas on why the mass exodus of defensive coaches happened

ignorance must be bliss around here. Fox is under contract with the Panthers....and I mean a 5yr contract worth 5mil per year and that contract is only in its third season. These coaches were fired because I believe the simply weren't aggressive with what they had to do. Why else would Fox have to look into the meeting room just to make sure your DC is doing his job? If you can't trust your assistants to assist you and put forth the effort it takes to be great on a consistent basis, of course you wouldn't be quick to give an extensions. Trgo had some great defenses in his time, however I think he's gotten stale and predictable, that Fox and Hurney had to let him go. There was probably that glimmer of hope that he'd get back to his old ways, but they also weren't going to break the bank to keep him if he wanted to go.

Being "perturbed" might be the reason Lewis and Sunseri left, but it doesn't make sense in Trgovac's case. One day, he's all excited and pissing himself about coming back. Then suddenly, he's changed his mind. It's almost as if he saw something in that two-year extension of a contract that he couldn't live with.

Either that... or he was as indecisive on whether he needed to be perturbed as he was in figuring out whether he needed to blitz or not.

Everyone used to and some do still think that Fox has a lot of say into the offensive play calling but the hard evidence is actually to the contrary(like Fox letting Davidson pick his own QB coach), it seems like Fox just lays the outline to what he wants to see but leaves the rest up to the Coordinator.

As for the Defense Fox didn't stick his nose into the Defensive meetings until problems started to happen on the Defense, and in 2007 the defense actually started to play better when Fox came in towards the end of the season.

maybe the panthers offered them crappy contracts because the panthers didn't want them back but didn't want them to get fired.

they weren't even going to offer some of them contracts at all. they said, and we all read it from different sources, that they were given permission to look elsewhere for work. why in the world would you say something like that unless you didn't want them to come back?

of course employees aren't going to be happy about being let go. the way it was done, though, is better for them and the organization. instead of them being fired they were simply just not asked to come back or offered contracts with so little job security that they would want to go somewhere else.

now ask why it was that all of these contracts ran out the year before fox's ran out?

i'm thinking the organization is a bit smarter than you guys are giving them credit for. the end result is we are getting a fresh start either in 2009 with foxes new staff (can't blame the same results on a staff that isn't there) or in 2010 when foxy is simply not asked to come back because he couldn't deliver the only thing that he was supposed to deliver.

Before this happened, they were saying that assistants were being allowed to look elsewhere. They're not allowed to look elsewhere if we don't let them, so the idea that it's some mutiny? I don't buy.

It doesn't explain Trgovac, but then again he had said he was staying at one point, too.

They are not allowed to look for other jobs while under contract. All these coach's contract end with this season's end.

They were free to look elsewhere.

The last time yas had any inside knowledge of the panthers I was still middle school. He just likes to make things up as they go along. Its no mistake that they didnt extend everyones contract.

I know Yasinskas has that view, but I disagree. There are definitely possibilities at DC I'd be happy with (already discussed elsewhere), and there are decent position coaches available too.

Check the understaff listings associated with some of the recently fired coaches and you'll find some decent and/or half decent names. That, plus there may be others with expired contracts or obscure names that we wouldn't know of, but the team would.

He always overstates his opinion and usually jumps the gun on his judgments. One example is next year's cap situation, we'll have more then that 10 million, for one it's probably higher then that he just didn't look at the right numbers. Second Marty is hella crazy on the books.

Say it ain't so.

That's my take on it. Fox might only look at wins and losses as the factor but I bet Hurney took a strong look at a top 7 Defense before the bye falling to 18th by the end of the season.

In the end however, I think all these guys took the fall for following the directions/philosophies of Fox.
