Troy Smith

I think Singletary and Troy are both gone at the end of the season. Unless the 9ers make the dance, I think they're going to reboot.

you may be right but I think Singletary has some room if they finish the season on a high note. kinda depends. they have a real chance to win their division so we'll see.

but if smith keeps trucking, I think they sign him.

I pray to the gods they keep Singletary. Any NFC team sucking it up for a year or two can't be anything but good for us.

honestly, the main reason I want em to keep him is because I think they have a more attractive HC opening than we do :P

I'm not so sure, I think if they can win 3 out of the next 5 that might get them in I don't think he necessarily *must* make the playoffs.

He's to much the face of the franchise out here, and if they finish strong and the organization promises the fans the Alex Smith days are over.

I think they bring him back and give him 1 more year.

If they did choose to fire Singletary it wouldn't be for anyone but a high profile coach.

How do you think the injury to Gore impacts Singletary and Troy Smith's jobs?

Especially now I think if they pull out some clutch wins down the stretch, even if they just miss the playoffs, it may be enough. Losing a player of Gore's caliber should be crippling. if it isn't, it says a lot about the team (especially the offense) and the coach, I think.

Troy Smith is a good player who got a bad break in Baltimore... I hope he takes off in San Fran, 'cause he is a damn good leader and he deserves a real shot some place. He's doing all this with practically no training camp time either, if I recall, and only relatively recently getting promoted to starter. He is playing with hardly any on the field chemistry with his receivers and it shows, yet he puts them in positions to win. He's going to have to overcome even more adversity with the loss of Gore, but hopefully he and Westbrook can recapture some of the old mojo.

Troy Smith deserves all the props we can give him.

Back in Buckeyeland, Coach Jim Tressel resisted the fans urging to turn him into a running quarterback and taught him how to pass instead. I wish more college coaches would do that with athletic quarterbacks. It'd greatly improve their future prospects.

Unfortunately, Tressel couldn't make him taller. Baltimore went for the 6'6 Joe Flacco instead.

It's possible for an NFL quarterback to compensate for lack of height (Brees is the best example) but it isn't easy and it'll take smart coaching.

Jury's still out, but I'd like to see him succeed. Maybe if he does we'll have more Jim Tressels at the college level.
