Rob Ryan as Head Coach?

I've said before, Harbaugh is my #1 target, but I do question whether he wants to leave Stanford/college yet... I certainly hope he does and that he'd be our #1 target.

But, JR likes defensive minded coaches and everyone keeps saying he'll look for a coordinator already in the league before an already established HC. JR also tries to model our franchise after the Steelers who have traditionally went with defensive-minded guys, so I just figured I'd throw it out there.

Also, if Ryan follows his brother and father's footsteps, he'll bring in a guy that calls the offense for him while he concentrates on the defense... Just b/c he's defensive minded doesn't mean he'll play Fox Ball.

I like defensive minded coaches, Rob has a legend for a father, grew up in X's and O's and is a good motivator and communicator.

His age may be the only set back in Richardson's eyes.

And he maybe in need of a shave and a haircut.:D

EDIT: and idk how much age would factor into it, as Rex just became a HC last year... But, if JR is following the Steelers way, they'd look for someone like Tomlin that's really young in terms of HCs.

Why is everyone scared to switch to the 3-4?

And no, I don't want Rob Ryan. Just because he's a "Ryan" doesn't mean a damn thing. He needs more years calling the shots like he is now before he's ready for the big time job.

scared? no.

Think it's a gimmicky defense if not done right? Absolutely. Watch that Dallas defense and see if you think putting four linebackers on the field fixes their problems.

Think it'll take 5-6 highly specialized, fairly expensive to attain players to retool a defense that on average has played much better than we expected? Yeah.

Think it'll exclude about ten young players we've put a lot into? Yeah.

Think it'll exclude the two best parts of our defense, Davis and Beason? Yeah.

So other than all that, sure, I guess I'm not "scared" to switch defenses just for laughs.

One advantage Harbaugh has over other coaches that have went from College to the pros is his playing experience in the NFL as a QB, and the fact that he was actually on an NFL coaching staff. There is a really good article on NFL.com that quotes a guy that was on the same staff as Harbaugh when he was a coaching assistant in the NFL. He contributed alot on offense, and help draw up plays in the film room. If I find it Ill pass it along.

No freaking more College HCs please. In the past 8 years all colleges HCs that became NFL HCs failed. No thinks. I stick with my choice of bringing in Bill Cowher if we can bottomline.:sosp:

I don't see the problem with a 3-4 defense - and people keep saying our personnel couldn't be moved to do it. I just don't see it?

If Beason can play middle or OLB, then whats the problem playing one of the inside backers in a 3-4? Anderson plays outside anyway - so as OLB, he'd be right there anyway. I'm not a D-oriented guy, but I'm just not seeing the opposition to switching if the new coach comes in and wants it. I think we have the players that could make the adjustments.

Can someone elaborate the "WHY" - not just a "our current personnel does not fit".

if my other post on this wasn't enough, sure, there's also continuity

Beason isn't just a guy who can fit anywhere and be a Pro Bowler. If you think he was as good at weakside as middle - there's nothing else to discuss, because I'm done.

James Anderson and Thomas Davis are awful fits for the 3-4. They'd be free agents anyway, but no reason to keep them for a defense they don't fit. So you're giving away the best part of your defense for free.

And, people have an emotional attachment because of 1996, but clearly just showing up with a 3-4 doesn't matter. If you think personnel isn't a huge part of it, you don't know that defense. If you think simply aligning in a 3-4 makes you better, you don't watch football.

So if you discount getting one or two players instead of 8, if that doesn't mean anything to you, and you think scheme is all that matters, not getting the best out of a unit that's playing well? Sure, the 3-4 might be great for you.

So whats best a 43 or 34.If you have a great d-line then its best to run a 43 but you if you dont and you want to be able to develop pressure constent. Then the best fit is 34.The only thing about the 34 defense is that you have to have a Pretty good Nose tackle. The nose tackle controls the defense up front he has to be good enough and big enough to keep pressure of the Linebacker up front. In carolina case that would be beason and connor. James Anderson and thomas davis doesnt fit the 34 defense. Also they are both free agents next year.Thomas davis is pretty injury prone so i doubt he will be back. Also i can see Anderson signing some were else.Everett Brown has the ability to play in the 34 defense due to the fit he is a speed rusher. And he just doesnt fit the 43 defense. If carolina wants to make the switch next year it will be the best time to do it.You will have to pretty good nose tackles in free agency in Aubryon Franklin from 49ers and Shaun Rogers from the browns. also we will need a 3 tech DE there will be Marcel Dareus and Cameron hayward in the draft that can fit that Mold..
