Clausen might be a very good QB. Anyone who wants to judge him based solely on what he does this year is really short-sighted. No one would thrive in this abortion of a season.

I've been saying this all along. +1 rep.

Jimmy went (16-29, 191). It just goes to show what he can do when he has a HB who gets 100 yards (way to go Goodson).

Imagine how much better they could of done if the O-Line didn't implode on them?

Now JC did miss some opportunities, and he still gets jumpy in the pocket, but he showed a lot better progression since last week. If he continues to improve, all those skeptics who want to draft another QB will be silenced.

Clausen exceeded my expectations and showed flashes of what he can do. He displayed good touch on his back shoulder throws and also showed good velocity on the slants he threw. I think in time he will gain confidence and start throwing the ball assertively down field. As house said in another thread, anyone who labeled him as a "bust" is beyond retarded. Offensive line is a bigger worry of mine because they can't block poo.

So, Clausen didn't play well up until today. He wasn't great, but he did looked much improved. Do we have hope?

That is the worst thing that can happen.

Clausen looks 'OK' or 'improved' after an awful season and we hold onto him thinking he's going to pan out and pass on a high potential QB in the upcoming draft.

I'd rather him play flat out awful or play amazing (for a rookie) so we flippin' know what we're dealing with. I don't want to be stringed along for years on end to find out whether he can or can't be and be stuck with a Henne type guy, or a Kolb, or Leinart, or Quinn, or Anderson, or T. Edwards etc etc etc. and in the end never get anywhere.

I'm asking for a lot here, but I want a rock solid kid with amazing measurables, and amazing immeasurables. I'm so sick of mediocre to horrible QB play in the Carolinas. This team needs a baller to prosper in this league, someone everyone gets behind and believes in. If Clausen can't get that done with 7 games left, I don't care if we make a mistake and move on prematurely from a player who looks improved from god awful to OK and who might but alright in 4 years IF he has a great o-line, and IF he has great receivers and IF he has a solid running game to lean on, and IF the defense plays well.

I'm not done with him, but I sure as hell am not ready to get behind him and pass on the QB's in this upcoming draft because he looks improved.

Honestly, saying he 'improved' helps us 0. He improved from what? This time he only had 4 batted down balls instead of 5? This time he took 4 sacks instead of 5? This time he dumped it down 6 times instead of 7?

Give him the year to find out, but by the end of it I want there to be a 99.9999% consensus that this kid will be something, or I want to move on.

I want to know like they do in Cleveland, this kid has what it takes, he's worth the time and effort we put into him to make him our QB of the future. They know in St. Louis, they knew in Baltimore, they knew in Atlanta, they knew in Detroit, they knew by the end of the season last year in Tampa Bay and New York. I want to know for sure.

If we're at the end of the season this year squabbling, divided on how 'improved' JC looks and what he could be IF all these x factors then I say draft a QB with the top pick.

Lol. Rookie Qb's don't go out and play amazing out of the blue. Every Qb that has succeeded in their rookie year recently has had the right pieces. Ryan had a big established receiver in Roddy White, and a 15,000 yard rusher in Michael Turner. In addition they had solid o-line play. Flacco had that scary defense that always kept them in games even when he played like poo. Same with Sanchez.

Rome wasn't built in a day.

You talk so much poo. McCoy will be a mediocre QB at best.

Freeman looked awful last year, but the Bucs went all in with him. Ryan looked very good, but he's regressed. Flacco has become an amazing QB, but he was mediocre his rookie year.

Every team saw what they needed to from these kids and stuck with them. Our talent evaluators will know what signs they're looking for from Clausen and go from there. They're certainly not expecting him to light up the league for 7 weeks.

Look buddy, I know I'm asking a lot here, too much probably, and I'm also fairly hot after yet another loss, maybe the Tampa Bay reference was off, but I don't think there should be much disagreement by the end of the season on what to do going forward at QB. I don't expect him to light it up, I just expect him to be a clear cut answer AT THE END OF THE SEASON to our QB problems. I don't want any gray area.

Let me reiterate that I'm not done with JC. I'm just stating that I want to know at the end of the season, rookie or not, whether to draft a QB in this upcoming class.

if your new coach isn't 100% sold on Clausen - and he likely won't be because I expect Clausen to look abysmal a few more times this season just because of how bad this team is - then you take Luck if he's available at #1.

that being said, there's no guarantee that: 1) luck comes out, or 2) we will have the ability to take him where we draft (since there is a real possibility we may beat someone and cowboys or bills sneak ahead of us)
