Cowher hints at Carolina Job on CBS pre game show!

cowher isn't near the tops of my list of coaches to come here. i can see it happening if richardson is really wanting to make amends for this ridiculously bad season, though. he'll want to get some high profile HC that can make the team solid (though i really don't see cowher doing much better than fox overall) and that will generate a lot of excitement over the fanbase (which will come from the "OMG he's got a ring! he's legit!" bandwagon).

people are reading too much into the cheapness of this season. after this season is over, those purse strings will open up.

Well, JR is going to have to do something. Hiring a cheap assistant after this season would not sit well with the fans.

Think about the comment. Did Marino's comment suggest that Cowher would be here as a coach or as a general manager, or both? The way I understand it, Fox and Hurney are without contracts.

Did the coin JR save this year justify that he is going after a top talent? Could he justify a big salary by combining Hurney's and Fox's salaries? Maybe he isn't getting cheap by not hiring Fox to a huge contract, he simply realizes that if he is going to hire a coach to a huge contract, it is going to be one who is a proven, CONSISTENT winner.

I also get the feeling that Richardson has known he had a better option for some time, since he has allowed Fox to rule a bad team as a lame duck. Furthermore, (this is reaching a lot, I know), I wonder about draft picks--Eric Norwood (3-4 guy)? Armanti Edwards (Slash II). Why did we not go after DTs--was it because we felt the players we have would have to hold it down until we convert and sing a true NT?

Could Everette Brown and Norwood be the OLBs? Could Hardy and Johnson handle DE? What do you do with TD (injury risk anyway)?

Cowher or Gruden would be a nice make up gift Jerry. We are tired of being looked down upon!!! We want our respect, again!

If he gets an upstart he'll have to change his name to "El Cheapo", I can't see him going that way this time. I think he's been waiting to hand the franchise over to somebody he can trust.

We are not far from having a very good team although it doesn't look like it at the moment.

I like Gruden's personality but really he took a good Dungy team in Tampa and drove it into the ground with bad draftpicks and FA moves, I'd much rather see Cowher or one of these younger coordinators take over. Trade down from 1st overall to 5th or 6th overall and get a 3rd and 4th round pick while your at it. Take AJ Green, Patrick Peterson, or Dequan Bowers.

JR has close ties to the Roonies and has always admired the Steelers. Cowher is a player's coach--they love him. People remind everyone that Cowher only won 1 Super Bowl in all his years there, but they forget that Pittsburgh, until the end of his tenure, had one of the lowest payrolls in the league. They knew when to ditch contracts. That is a sixth sense in the NFL, and Cowher has it. That is how he had teams like the 2010 Panthers in the playoffs most years.

Now, if you can hire a coach for $7 million per year who can prevent you from wasting money on huge player contracts, do it. Get a guy who sqeezes talent out of every player. THink about the guys Cowher won with: Mark Malone? Willie Parker? Cordell Stewart?

Now think about how players productivity dropped off after leaving Pittsburgh.

I saw it, but Cowher said something right after about how theres 32 teams in the league

I am not saying Cowher is coming here but he could have easily said "I am not going back to coaching.........". If he wasnt thinking about coaching again then that is how you respond, it pretty easy. Where its here or somewhere, it definately gave the impression Cowher will be coaching next season.
