since this thread is pretty useless now, I want all to know, especially Raging Bull because I know he often leads the motherf*cker or something, that I call the Panthers in this year's mock draft games... you know.. where we all pick a team?

I don't follow.... :troll:

I was actually itching to start that up, but I wanted to wait until after the superbowl.

I think beastmorgan did the Panthers last year or something like that. But if you want it, hey, no probs.

We usually do a mock draft game in which everyone picks a team before draft day.. the NFL draft.. and we go through and mock most of the draft.. I was the Bears last year I think, and ended up taking over a lot of teams once we hit the later rounds...

sounds like fun, I want in... can we run a 3-4?

lol I ALMOST started it the other day, but I was still under my self imposed ban... so I waited..

yea I remember when I did the Panthers in 07. I think I made a record 5 or so trades in that draft. IIRC...

I traded down from 14 to 24, the Patriots pick and acquired Stephen Neal, a NE OL, and picked Posluszny, then in round 2 i got TE Zach Miller, traded with Miami to get Renaldo Hill, traded Gamble to Detroit for Mike Furrey, another WR, and a 3rd rounder, I got Josh Gattis. I think I got Sabby Piscitelli too. It was a trade happy draft for me.

3-4 teams run a base 1 gap also using the LB as the 4th 1 gap guy. Just like the 4-3 though they never run it all the time nor do they run 2 gap all the time.

Read what I posted. 3-4 use a base 2 gap not a 1 gap. When the linebacker moves up to the line he either plays wide in the 7 technique or the tackles move inside where they are all lined up in a 4-3 alignment where they could either use a 1 gap or 2 gap technique.

But almost always a 3-4 uses a primary 2 gap scheme and make adjustments. As you note most teams don't use one scheme all game as it is too easy for the other team to figure it out and adjust. If they used a 1 gap technique expecially against the run it would allow at least 2 linemen to have an unfettered run to the second level against the linebackers. The key concept is to have 3 defensive linemen play against 5 offensive linemen allowing the linebacker to fill the gaps and make plays.
