Official 3-4 Defense Thread

A) when did the 4-3 become only a bend but dont break scheme?

I said bend but don't break is crappy in general, it had nothing to do with if you're running a 4-3 or a 3-4. The 3-4 talk came from the possibility that change would be good. The change, however, doesn't have to be a 3-4.

i agree you've got a long way to go to make a thread as good as one of my bad one congrats

I'm sorry I don't devote as much of my time in typing out a long and redundant message that is equal to listening to John Madden broadcasting the same game over and over.

I'm sorry if you don't think my thread is "great" or good but the entire point behind making it was to have people reply to the situation that presented itself this morning. The common misconception is that I made this thread to announce my love for the 3-4 or say we should change to it, where that is not the case.

Just a question, but why would you want the best defensive lineman we have cut? Doesn't make sense to me...

You would have to ask Fitz, the god of thread making.

why is it that it seems most everyone on this board has such a hard on to change to a 3-4? a 4-3 scheme certainly suits our talent much better, as some folks on here have pointed out. personally, i feel like the 3-4 is overrated and kind of a fad, much like the "mobile" quarterback was 5-10 yrs ago.

we were 12-5 this year guys. no need to scrap the entire system. let's see what the new coaches can do.

why is everyone always telling me to go fug you?

Our front 4 doesn't get pressure, and thats a big problem.

With the 3-4 you are blitzing every single play, and from different angles and a different position.

It pretty much changes the previous scheme that Trgo/Fox used and makes it better.

Blitzing period would be a change from the Trgo/Fox scheme. :P

Kemoeatu didn't start consistently until Nolan left and Ryan went back to an even-front 4-3 like us. He's big, but that doesn't mean he'd be great at taking on the center and he's kinda inconsistent (mostly due to leverage, because of his height). You can get away with that better in a one-gap defense, and that's what we do. You could go to a one-gap 3-4, but those are soul-less, awful creatures I'd rather not get in bed with.

Bend but not break is not a scheme....it is a philosophy. It was Trgo's philosophy and it's a bad philosophy. however to assume that the 4-3 lends itself for that philosophy is just flat out foolish

Bend don't Break is Fox philosophy

Last 2 seasons Fox has took charge of the defense , Bend don't breal has never been changed
