Official 3-4 Defense Thread

Depending on who our DC will be, a 3-4 is now an actual possibility I think.

Imagine picking up Suggs and Ray Lewis. Having him and Beason in the middle, it would be sick.

I think Brayton can play DE in the 3-4 well, I think he did it in Oakland. Charles Johnson would be a (?) though I imagine he would be a good pass rusher.

Its fun to dream.

3-4 is possible, but not probable.

The most likely chance of that is picking up Romeo Crennel, and if that did happen, I'd as rather run the hybrid 3-4/4-3 that the Pats did than the straight 3-4 that the Browns did. I've already stated my favorite pick for LBs coach is Haluchak, their LBs coach and previously the LBs coach under Fox in NYG.

Suggs is a guy I want if Peppers goes. Remember, he's been playing end anyway recently.

Not happening. In doing so you basically waste Johnson, Brayton, Lewis, and Diggs. And there is no telling if our guys could adjust to it.

why is it that it seems most everyone on this board has such a hard on to change to a 3-4? a 4-3 scheme certainly suits our talent much better, as some folks on here have pointed out. personally, i feel like the 3-4 is overrated and kind of a fad, much like the "mobile" quarterback was 5-10 yrs ago.

we were 12-5 this year guys. no need to scrap the entire system. let's see what the new coaches can do.

Since win is wasting players on the bottom of the superstar spectrum a big deal?

Lewis is best suited as a back up.

Brayton is best suited as a back up.

Diggs played pretty well, but he doesn't make that many big plays.

Johnson is up and coming.

Kemo played NT for the Ravens, so he is familiar with the scheme. Brayton can play 3-4 DE.. but Charles Johnson can't play Dline in the 34, he might be able to play OLB in the 34, however. Thomas Davis would either have to move to MLB, or he would have no position in the 34 defense. Davis is not strong enough to play OLB in the 34..

So basically it would require a few pieces here and there, but it is not totally out of the question.

I would love to pick up Tyson Jackson from LSU to play DE for us in the 34 defense. He is like 6'6" and 300 lbs. Reminds me of a Richard Seymour type.

Sometimes I wonder if people even understand what's required to run the 3-4...our defenseive linemen and linebackers as they are right now, have no business with a 3-4 defense, but noo...people are in 3-4 land with their misguided ideas that doing so will bring Peppers back. before this Peppers nonsense, the 3-4 was merely but a figment of the imagination for the Carolina defense...now all of a sudden...we have to do it? Get some sense people

Our front 4 doesn't get pressure, and thats a big problem.

With the 3-4 you are blitzing every single play, and from different angles and a different position.

It pretty much changes the previous scheme that Trgo/Fox used and makes it better.

Your high off your ass. Thomas Davis is probably the strongest linebacker on the team. I've seen him bull-rush very good tackles and drive them back.

I'm not one for a 3-4 personally, and I'm also not one to daydream and say IF we had T Suggs or Ray Lewis it would work, but with our actual personnel, what if we did this...

Do you know what would happen if we used Damione Lewis and Kemo in the 3-4? we're not going to a 3-4...you can forget that.
