  1. 1. Should Hurney be fired?

There is more to a GM than drafting. Every argument I've heard for him staying only ever talks about who he's helped draft.

How about this complaint? Rucker/Jenkins/Buckner/Peppers turned into what now? Yeah.

Rucker retired a Panther

Jenkins became Barnidge and Godfrey

Buckner retired a Panther

Peppers basically screwed us over, despite Hurney offering twice to pay him and franchising him once.

I don't see the complaint.

Delhomme extension

You can resent that one all day long, but it really didn't cost us anything that year, gave us cap room, and in the end the price was put on the team in an uncapped season.

In retrospect, a very good move. You're just too pissed at Delhomme to see the cap and roster management that came out it.

Yes, he should be fired. He traded our 1st round pick for f***in Everette Brown!!!!!!!!!!! He gave Jake Delhomme a contract extension coming off one of the worst performances in playoff history, why not just let Jake Delhomme play out the final year of his original contract and see how he plays. Then trading our second round pick for a division II quarterback. I guess Hurney thinks Armanti Edwards can do the same things in the NFL, that he did against bad competition like Furman, Wofford and the Citadel. Hurney needs to go!!!!!!!!!!!!

First thing, takes three years to call a bust. So get off the Edwards and Brown trades...

Second thing - BECAUSE THEY TAGGED PEPPERS, THEY HAD TO OFFER THAT CONTRACT TO DELHOMME. It was a must for the rest of the team to come together, they just didn't have the cap room for much of anything after the Franchise tag.

Third, the team went from being 20-44 in four years to haveing the 7th best record in the NFL over the last 7 years..

so 20-44 Prior to Hurney being here

76-60 since Hurney was hired......

hmmmmmm

He manages the cap, its still his job...minus the Peppers screw up he's done a good job at that... he did a good job in his first coaching Hire...Fox ...superbowl, 2 NFC south Titles and 2 NFC championship games....

He's done a good job in the draft...Beason, Kalil, Otah, Williams, Stewart.....

Most everyone here is wanting to fire what many consider 1 of the top 4-5 drafting GM's in the League (for a team that is rebuilding....) And is also considered one of the best cap managers in the NFL and 1 of the top GM's in the league... Widely considered to be in the top 5 or 10 GM's in the NFL.....

It's hard to improve upon a top 5 or top 10 GM, the improvements need to be made in other area's but GM isn't one of those area's.

That was kind of forced upon the team because of the Peppers fiasco that occured. The Peppers situation should have never happened, they should have talked with him and set up a trade with him before last season for a 2nd and 3rd or something similar.

Either way, Hurney is to blame. Delhomme extension or Peppers fiasco, pick your poison. Delhomme

It cost us a whole season, man! That short relief on the cap did not equal out with the 12 mil we had to pay Delhomme now, while he's sucking with the Browns. Honestly, that extension could have been one of the reasons why JR decided to go this route.

The only move that even has the potential to match that extension is the AE trade.

I was comparing that line, with what Hurney and Co brought into replace it with. Rucker/Jenkins/Buckner/Peppers versus Kemo, D. Lewis, Brown, Brayton, C. Johnson, Landri, E. Johnson, etc. It's Hurney's and Fox's job to keep that part of the team thriving and they failed BIG time. Our D-line has been trash since then.

Well, to be fair I think you need to call it like this:

Jay Williams

Brentson Buckner

Sean Gilbert

Mike Rucker

That's the line he inherited. Jenkins was a rookie, and started the following year with the rookie Peppers. So the line you're talking about was Hurney's first.

And another thing to look at is the linebackers:

Dan Morgan --> Jon Beason (Thomas Davis)

Lester Townes --> Dan Connor (Jon Beason)

Darren Hambrick --> James Anderson

And you can do the Secondary too

Mike Minter --> Charles Godfrey

Deon Grant --> Sherrod Martin

Rashard Anderson --> Richard Marshall

Jimmy Hitchcock --> Chris Gamble

So yeah, he improved the HELL out of the defensive line early, now he's gotten the secondary loaded by comparison.

Each unit will have it's ebbs and flows over a franchise's history. I think if you get that granular it's too easy to see job performance in a fish-eye lens. Step back, and one thing you'll see is that he's transitioned the team from a collection of free agents to a collection of draft picks. That's a fair accomplishment.

I voted Marijuana, as in you need to be high in order to make the choice.

the thing that hurney does that pisses me off is trade UP in the draft for talent. He's not very good at that. Trading down is just awesome, It gives you more picks and poo and or more players to your roster. nothing wrong with that. Trading up seems to screw us in the long run each time.

I think you must be missing the point. When Hurney did that, he had to find a way to work in room under the NFL Salary Cap. Now he's paying money that maybe he shouldn't, but it's not hurting the team in the same way because there is no cap this year.

The only person who should really be pissed at this is JR, and he signed off on the deal. To us fans, it shouldn't be a big deal because it came with no penalty to the team at all.

A Good GM would not have his team 1-7 and probably the worst team in the NFL. You can say that he drafted these good players, but we aren't winning. We haven't won a playoff game in 5 years. The future doesn't look good for the Panthers either. Steve Smith is aging. Jonathan Stewart looks like he lost a step. D.Will will probably sign with another team. And we dont have a proven QB. And our D-line is still a question mark. And the O-line is suspect. Hurney may know how to draft good players, but he doesn't know how to build an good overall team. He not a good GM and needs to go.
