I like turtles.

Fox did NOT want a QB drafted. As soon as Fox was out of the drafting picture (this year), Hurney started investing some serious picks in QB. They did bring in some FA QBs but none have been the answer. I do not think he had control over the lack of veteran presence at that spot... though perhaps Fox, Hurney, or JR were just REALLY high on Moore...

They HAVE drafted WRs, they haven't panned out. No GM is perfect.

Firing Hurney would be a bad idea right now. Looking for an entire new staff, instead of just a coaching staff, would set us back quite a bit imo.

they drafted keary colbert who did great his rookie year, so this whole "they can't evaluate wr" tripe is erroneous.

i mean if you had told everyone what colbert's first year stats were he would have been a first round pick.

he just...stopped caring for some reason.

hurney brought in the players he was told to bring in.

He didn't control who was drafted nearly as much as fox did (imo).

Fox loves jake like a damn son, of course he wasn't going to draft an early qb. I full believe his ass would be qb this season as well if it had been up to fox.

You nailed the wr issue, but i wonder how much that falls into drafting priority as well.

amen.

did you just say that QB has been a weakness the ENTIRE time Fox & Hurney have been here...?

I just don't get that. Jake faded, but he had a few nice seasons here working with an offense that simply was never designed to put up consistently huge numbers of yards through the air...

edit: also, we had good WRs for like... what... two years...?

Hurney and Fox whiffed on a bunch of WRs...

This last draft, Fox had far less input. What did we do? Go crazy on QBs & WRs.

Any coincidence?

No GM is perfect, I agree. But in the 9 years he's been here, I would expect ONE of the WRs he drafted or brought in through FA to make and impact or still be on an NFL team now. Since none of them are (making an impact), I have to call bullshit.

And firing the GM along with the coach is not going to "set us back" that much more than just firing the coach.

It's actually the perfect time if it has to be done. If he's not fired now and they bring in a new coach this year, and Hurney has to be fired in two years, things will get even worse. At that time, a new GM will want to bring in HIS guy, and will fire the coach whose been here for 2 years, which will "set us back" at the place we tried to originally avoid.

It's like shitting the bed. Why throw out the poo and keep the sheets? Everything needs to be thrown out at this point.

One good season from a drafted WR in 9 years makes his evaluation of WRs good and makes up for all the other mistakes he's made in bringing WRs to Carolina?

Sorry, I demand a little better than that when it comes to evaluating talent. But that may just be me.

If Hurney's draft class of receivers this year produces results, wouldn't that change your mind? It was clearly a need they attempted to address. For that matter, we still may see a veteran acquisition at the position next year.

If our coach in 2 years is doing well and Hurney has really screwed things up again, I really doubt we'd bring in a GM that would want the coach gone. I just don't see the advantage of removing him. He has literally done everything JR asked. Getting rid of him might limit our ability to find a good replacement... He's lasted this long for a reason, and it's not just because of Fox. He has set the team up precisely as management wanted. To remove him now... meh. Just seems like a bad idea.

moose was pretty good last year.

I don't really count Moose. He was here before Hurney got here, kinda sucked in Chicago for what they paid him, then had to compete against Colbert when he came back.

Everyone looked good next to Colbert, but I see your point.

    • Ok but is the alternative? He is not going to sign for a lesser contract, so then do you release him? We did that with Burns... see how that is working out. You can save the cap but you still need to replace the player. You can argue that we should have be preparing to replace Horn when his deal came up but we dealt those picks to get a QB.  Im curious to know how you would have handled it differently..
    • Perhaps you are correct but it has been a long time since the Panthers had a WR core that scared anyone and this could be part of the problem.  They finally found someone with Moore and the fans complained nonstop that he wasn't a true number 1 and perhaps the front office agreed and why he was traded.  If Warren is there at number 8, that's going to be the pick.
