now that i've got your attention, lets see what has Hurney really done the past few years to keep us relevant?

I think we did a great job by picking up players like Delhomme, Stephen Davis, Ken Lucas and maybe a couple of others. These guys are all in the distant past. There has been glaring holes on this team (W.R., D-line) to name a couple that have been needed to be addressed. There have been options available via trade and free agency over the past few years but no we decided to sign scrubs like D.j Hackett and Rod Gardner. As far as the d-line goes we traded Jenkins away and made no effort to replace him. We let Peppers walk with no compensation, should have traded him when we franchised him cuz it was obvious he didnt want to be here at that point.

Then there are multiple other wiffs, like adam meadows, mike whale, and plenty others that we sucked at in free agency.

I agreed with the trade for otah because of the win now mentality we had at that point and it actually worked out pretty good. But we can all agree that the 1st and 2nd round picks are the easiest to evaluate, so why on earth would we piss away those picks for everette brown and armanti edwards?

The brown one i will cut him some slack for but the edwards one was one of the dumbest moves i've ever seen. They stated from the beginning that he would be a project and knew he wouldnt contribute right away, so why sacrifice a future 2nd rounder for him? It would make sense if they thought he could contribute immediately and if we were in the "win now" mindset, but we are far as hell away from that.

John Fox's style of coaching has run its course here and he needed to be let go last year. We also held onto trgovac for way too long and screwed the pooch with Davidson.

As G.M for this team he has to be held accountable for these moves and its time to move on.

No he's not the worst g.m in the league, but he's far from somebody I want making these major decisions from here on out.

And as for his philosphy of building thru the draft, well he's had a decade to do that and all we have to show for it is our current 1-7 team.

Hurney was once one of the best, but his decison making of lately should cost him his job, regardless of whether or not the local beat writers think he will

Edwards has enough potential as an athlete and a football player that if he delivers on just half of it the 2nd round pick will be justified. And we'll never know the full story, but others were reported as being interested. Given his upside, the risk/reward of this pick looked pretty good at the time, and in a couple of years may look like genius. It's way, way, way too early to make any decision based on this.

If Fox was let go last year, then a new coach would be under contract for next year. That's a year where we don't know if we'll be playing football. It's likely that the decision here was handed down from on high. If you recall, there has been a lot of funny business about coaching contracts for the last couple of years, and that's one thing that does point to money.

I absolutely agree about Davidson, for what it's worth. But I also heard at the time that he was Fox's choice and not Hurney's. Like a good boss, Hurney listens to those beneath him when he makes decisions.

If you think the record has nothing to do with coaching and stability and everything to do with talent, then your draft comment is spot on. I don't, and I doubt anyone will once we get a coach who's motivated and a little experience on the roster. Players like Gross, Wharton, Kalil, Smith, Stewart, Williams, Johnson, Gamble, Marshall, Beason, Connor, Anderson, Godfrey, Martin, and Munnerlyn would find playing time anywhere. We've got talent. We need a leader.

And finally, you're assuming that Hurney has made all of those decisions in a vacuum. I doubt that's the case. Richardson isn't shy about getting rid of people who he doesn't feel are getting the job done, he fired his own sons. And he's kept Hurney. And that's probably for good reason.

I think he's drafted pretty well.

The defense has been built almost entirely through the draft and it's holding up well considering how horrible the offense is playing.

Also how do you know it's so easy to evaluate 1st round picks? Do you not notice the numerous busts every year? You've been spoiled by Hurney's stellar 1st round performance and you don't even know it.

Jase, you never call me out any more.

cyberjag, you poo poo head.

well it appeared the other thread had lost steam, so I wanted to make sure they saw it.

This is just a forum to discuss football, and i dont see this thread being any less deserving than one asking who would make the best zombie

you underestimate the importance of zombies.

I dont think he has been terrible at drafting nor great..but his decision making as of late is more than questionable. And what about neglecting the holes that could have been filled with proven vets?

And as I said Fox should have been fired at least a year ago if not longer, so ya I think coaching has alot to with our record

you dont think first rounders are easier than later round picks? ever notice how mock drafts accuracy fall off as the draft goes on?

Yeah, because we all know that I rarely follow up...

And Fiz is out there busy not giving two shits about what any of us think.

But Jase IS a poo-head, and this thread did give me an opportunity to say so, so thanks for that. :D

I later realized you did follow up after i posted it, bad timing.

Luckily for me I dont view the huddle as a popularity contest (not saying you do) its just the most active forum to discuss my favorite football team, and its damn good site for killing time, especially for those like me who have a very restricted internet at work.

    • With the current read-out, 2026 is around 90,000,000..... that's without the rollover from this season, nor factors in the 9 draft picks(7th round should not count against 51 roster if they use it). Need to factor Icky and his deal.   I got to say...... (surprise!!) that's nearly too much! I believe the smoke about Higgins now. I even look at the 2026 free agents and know 3/4 the cream will be tagged or signed. Overall its awful and maybe worse than this past year.  Panthers may have 110million in cap space with no one worthy to sign.  Sorta understand the over paying for wharton, and safety...... even horn....
