Peppers is ranked as the 2nd best DE available in FA?

The point is:

Nobody loves you like your momma. For Peppers, the Panthers Fans were always willing to look past some of his faults b/c we watched him grow up in front of our eyes. He will not get the same slack from fans of another city.

If he was to change his mind and re-sign a long term with us, I predict many in Charlotte would forgive and forget.

Sign and trade pep for a 1st rounder, let gross walk. Get suggs and haynesworth than draft a OT.

No, he's just 6'7" 295 that can drop back in coverage at times and can run like a 4.7 40 time. He's not that great

Point being, Peppers COULD be great, he just isn't.

I don't have a problem with Suggs being ahead of Peppers. Who would YOU want to build a defense around?

baltimore sun was saying that they aren't going to break the bank and are wanting him to sign a smaller contract to stay there.

ray lewis is no guarantee to stay there.

I just think Ray Lewis is one of those guys that will happily take the smaller contract to stay in Baltimore. He's not just a player; he's involved with a lot of other aspects of the organization.

Sounds good to me. If the money is the same...........

Suggs + Hatnesworth + 1st>>>>>>>>> Peppers + Gross

well after some cuts (ken lucas, hackett, johnson, goings maybe) this is actually not that unthinkable. Lets say we stay in the 4-3 a dline of suggs, haynesworth, kemo and johnson with brayton and d lew subing in sounds pretty damn solid.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but posting combine numbers doesn't prove your point.

Not quoting combine numbers. If that is how you look at it. so be it. I am stating a fact that he is a freak of nature and is just as good as anyone out there. Now, do I want a guy on the team that doesn't want to be here? No. Suggs is great too. I was just folllowing up that comment about him not being that great.

I hope we tag him and trade him for something new

What you quoted were the same as combine numbers and just because he's a freak of nature doesn't make him a great football player. Don't get me wrong I do think he is a great football player but not everyone thinks he is as great as many on here think he is or at least used to think he is.

You can tell me all the numbers you want but that won't change the fact that someone at scouts.com thinks Suggs is a better DE and not the best DE in the NFL as some have said. So using numbers won't prove a thing.

Why do people think we have to let Gross go in order to sign some good folks. Gross was franchised which means he was paid almost 8 million this year or the average of the top 5 players at his position. Common thought is that he will get a long range deal in the 8 million per year deal range. That is what we paid him this year folks. We have 10 million more to spend based on the increaed cap and Gross won't cost more than he is making this year. Repeat.........He won't cost us anymore than he is making this year to sign him long term. Even if we franchise Peppers it will cost us 2 1/2 million more than it did this year and we will likely trade him which gives us a spare 17 million to play with. The only issue will be trying to sign folks while we shop Peppers since we have to be under the cap at some point and need his cap space to sign some other talent.

    • Karlaftis and Danna have been pretty inconsistent so teams have been doubling Jones and able to contain their pass rush.   But the good thing is that yesterday, we schemed well against Steve Spags Defense, Canales married the surrounding personnel with his QB through play designs within his comfort zone and was able to get downfield at will.  He was able to execute higher difficulty throws and look a lot more comfortable.  It tells me that Canales has a good system in mind, and had an edge gameplanning wise against Spagnuolo - which is nice to see.  It's a bit to see-saw at times with either going way too pass heavy or way too run heavy, but I think he's finding out what works.  It takes time to have it come together, and sure, I could see regression happen against a better front-7, but this was good for the entire system gelling.
    • This was evident first two weeks of season. I don’t see any issues with physical tools since he came back. I think he is a player that must play with confidence to overcome those size limitations and he’s doing that.
    • Still 3-10 on passes over 15 yards.  At least he's not scared to merely attempt them anymore.  Where I see improvement is the 10-15 yard range.  He was 6-6.  Bryce of old was scatter shot on anything beyond 10 yards and the further out, the worse the accuracy.
