Hurney shouldn't be fired for two main reasons

And if Ben didn't pan out here people would be crucifying Hurney for trading up to get a QB out of Miami-Ohio.

People forget the Butterfly Effect. Just because Tom Brady has done very well in NE doesn't mean he would have done well here. And you never know how the NFL landscape may have unfolded. It's not necessarily a lateral move of talent from one team to another. Just look at Tennessee Haynesworth Vs. Washington Haynesworth.

The stupidity of Fiz's original post and people agreeing with it from the first few posts I read enraged me at first. Then, to show you what this season has done to me, I decided not to even waste my time typing up a post chronicling how Hurney's bad has vastly outweighed the good. Why? Because I don't give a poo. This team is going nowhere until Fox and Hurney are gone and until Jerry Richardson hands duties over to someone still competent. I simply don't care anymore. Once those things happen, we'll have a chance to win again. Until then, I honestly don't care.

way to early to to judge the 2010 draft or the 09 draft AJ smith can draft players he just cant run a team that well it seems.

So just look at 06, 07, and 08. He just didn't really get anything done.

Seriously? Our current 1-15 roster is the worst in team history and the majority of this team with very little talent is composed solely of his draft picks. What more needs to be said?

I can't keep track. Do we suck because of coaching or talent? Or are you saying it's both?

How does our defense do it, BTW? They seem to be adequate, despite the amount of time they're on the field? And on offense, do Gross, Wharton, Kalil, Stewart, Williams, King and Smith suddenly suck? Or is the talent there after all, even if the execution is not?

The Panthers are playing like any team would if you removed all the leadership and put in a lame duck coach. That doesn't mean that there isn't any talent, does it?

If you're a new coach with a lot of energy, Carolina's got a LOT to offer. Way more than we did in 2002. Which only adds to the frustration of a 1-7 record.

All of those players have been here for years now and don't have a single playoff victory to show for it. 4 out of the past 5 seasons have been gut-wrenching disappointments and the 1 successful season ended with a first-round loss with the single-most disappointing game in team history. And now here we are staring 1-15 in the face and there are still people that want the GM of this team that's been here through all this failure to stay. Makes no goddamn sense.

By the way, as for Fox, I have said very few negative things about him this season. I do want him gone, but I did make a thread a few weeks ago saying that it's ridiculous to hold him responsible for the team that Jerry Richardson and Marty Hurney handed him.

Man now my blood is starting to boil over Marty Hurney's failures all over again. We don't have a single player from the past 2 drafts that's over a C player. We DO have Everette Brown (a complete bust) when we could have taken Dez Bryant at his spot this year if we had kept that pick. And we DO have Armanti Edwards, a joke player that we got for the 33rd pick in the draft this season.

God, I need to take a Huddle sabbatical. The only people left posting are the flowery ladypanthers of the world that wouldn't want anyone gone if we went 0-16 for the next 5 years because that's just too mean and not supportive of the team enough.

Even 2008's draft is looking worse and worse as the days go by with Otah looking like glass. The last draft that still looks good is 2007 and even THAT draft saw us draft Mr. Dwayne Jarrett in the 2nd round.

Dude, you need a little perspective. Every team misses a LOT in the draft, and it's hard as hell to build a team that way. We have talent, but it's not cohesive.

What we're missing is a franchise QB. I think Clausen has potential, but only if we get a coach in here to develop it. And I think that for the first time in a long time we'll have a pick high enough to get a real stud. And I also think that Hurney and his scouting department are good enough to avoid the Carrs and Harringtons and take a star if one's available.

This is a real bad season to pass individual judgments on. I think Fox is a good coach in a bad situation. He'll be fine at his next stop. I think Hurney is a very good GM who's using the situation to set the table for sustained success--all he needs to do is find the right coach in the off season.

And I think Richardson did something the wrong way. Really wrong. He's forgiven. Next time, I sell my PSLs.

1. Overall, the good with Hurney outweighs the bad. Everyone is transfixed by the horrors of Everette Brown and Jake Delhomme, but I doubt we'll ever know the full story behind that. For all we know, there might be a reason Fox was kept out of drafting after the 2009 season. Hurney is also fantastic with contracts, something that can't be overlooked.

2. Most importantly, it sends a terrible message to any potential replacement. Here's a guy that just did what the owner instructed him to do, and on top of that has been paraded out in front of the media every week to be pilloried. The guy has no more swords to fall on, yet has become the defacto face of the franchise in lieu of the owner.

To fire him after all he's done (sacrificing his public and professional reputation for Jerry's vendetta) would basically tell every other potential GM that the owner will flush you down the drain the second it's convenient.

We're already going to have enough trouble finding a coach after the way Richardson has handcuffed Fox. Let's not make it a GM as well.

Hurney is not the cap guy. That would be Rob Rogers.

On Everette Brown- Hurney took a first round pick in an extremely poor 2010 draft after the first five spots or so and put it towards a player in the second round who had a lot of promise in a much better draft. Yes it looks like he whiffed but even so it's still far too early and we won't know until our new coaching staff is in.

On Armanti- Judging that pick now is pointless, we just need to wait it out and see how he develops. He was obviously a project and if he is ready to go next year that's the exact same thing as drafting a guy in the second next year who already has a year of learning the NFL game. I think that's what some people are failing to see, yes it's taking a risk but would you spend a second round pick on a guy who could be in the mold of a Wes Welker? I know I sure as hell would. I have no idea what this guy will turn out to be but rushing to judgement after only half of a shitty ass season is not advisable.
