Hurney shouldn't be fired for two main reasons

2. Most importantly, it sends a terrible message to any potential replacement. Here's a guy that just did what the owner instructed him to do, and on top of that has been paraded out in front of the media every week to be pilloried. The guy has no more swords to fall on, yet has become the defacto face of the franchise in lieu of the owner.

To fire him after all he's done (sacrificing his public and professional reputation for Jerry's vendetta) would basically tell every other potential GM that the owner will flush you down the drain the second it's convenient.

i guess this depends on how long of an extension he got. he might not even have to be fired, much like fox

We're already going to have enough trouble finding a coach after the way Richardson has handcuffed Fox. Let's not make it a GM as well.

lets not forget this is the same owner whom rewarded fox handsomely after success, and Fox is fortunate to have an owner as tolerant as Richardson is because on any respectable team he would've been fired before this point. Richardson is courteous enough to not put that kind of black mark on his resume.

also to have traded peppers this year they would have had to risk franchising him again, and then you have to gamble that someone will be willing to pay it.

In retrospect Chicago was pretty ready to give him the world but they couldn't have known that, and I doubt it was hurney that wanted to take that risk as much as it was Richardson.

The idea that we could have traded Peppers if we Franchised Tagged him again of course most likely would have worked as it did last year. Peppers wouldn't sign until July long after the draft and simply collected a 20% raise from his previous 17 million dollar figure. Completelty freezing the Panthers as he did after 2009 and laughing all the way to the bank.

We never would have gotten to Chicago to bargain because without a signature on the FT contract we're not allowed to even talk to another team about trading Peppers, only his agent had that privelage. We all know how that worked out.

Having missed the window in Peppers last contract year to trade him for value after he turned down a contract extension by the Panthers to be the highest paid Defensive player in the league (as the Patriots traded Seymour) we were fuged.

You obviously don't know how the huddle works. We had a straight-up trade for Manning in the bag. Hurney just didn't make it happen.

Really easy to look back on drafts and see who was missed and skipped over.

Just keep in mind that everyone else passed on Tom Brady too.

Ultimately that is how any GM is judged. If a GM sucks at drafting players, you don't know until it pans out, good or bad. There is no other way to judge their performance.

HIndsight is 20/20 and that is the measuring stick a GM faces.

on the other hand jerry angelo is literally retarded so

Would have loved to see what we could have gotten done if Pepeprs signed his FT tag in a timely manner similar to what Matt Cassel did in New England. A top 2nd round pick for Cassel was another clever Patriot get.

Unfortunately, Pepeprs being the freak he is that was never a reality.

That's true enough, but you have to look at the good picks too. People are quick to point at Jarrett, but then ignore Williams.

On balance, he's done an outstanding job drafting, but no one wants to talk about the successes because they're not as interesting as the failures.

eh, i wouldn't say outstanding unless you're just counting the first round.

after that, he's pretty much average at best

I can live with Hurney's drafts.

Except for the reaches when he's given away future picks to selct a player.

A 1st, 2nd and 4th for Otah.

The 17th overall pick to select Brown 43rd.

And probably the 34th pick overall for Armanti Edwards.

Unforgivable.

Unfortunately, the GM simply makes the personnel moves. I still hold the coaching staff responsible for not developing some legitimate talent Hurney drafted like Colbert, Shelton and probably a couple others.
