Hurney shouldn't be fired for two main reasons

also to have traded peppers this year they would have had to risk franchising him again, and then you have to gamble that someone will be willing to pay it.

In retrospect Chicago was pretty ready to give him the world but they couldn't have known that, and I doubt it was hurney that wanted to take that risk as much as it was Richardson.

colbert had "it". then he didn't. strangest thing I've ever seen... I've seen regression, but it was beyond regression...

they TRIED to address WR, so it is hard for me to fault them entirely except to say they weren't the best at evaluating & developing WRs.

that being said, Gettis and Lafell have both showed some nice moves this season. With a little luck we may see something out of them in their careers.

Fiz, to me Hurney and Fox have always been the perfect match of head coach and GM, because I don't think either one would have a clue on how to do each others' job. If Jerry wanted a new coach with more of the GM mentality (like a Bill Parcells for example - not like it would be him though) a guy who has proven savvy with player personnel work, would that allow for Hurney to exit without the "you did everything I asked and you're still fugged" label?

I know it's ancient history now, but was Seifert a coach/GM hybrid? If so, do you think Jerry will ever go down that road again?

i know people don't like hearing this, but Hurney would have a job the second he was handed his pink slip.

the best case scenario is that richardson becomes more of a laughing stock in league circles which is never a good thing.

yes he was (rashard anderson never forget) and I highly doubt it.

Every GM has a weakness.

Bill Polian also among the best in the league has missed on most of his third round picks(lately) & his last 3 1st round picks have had mixed results at best. the draft is not a EXACT science. from my understanding hurney, fox,his staff & our scouting department all have input on the draft. up until this season Fox has pretty much got his way as far as the roster is concerned & i don't see that changing with the next coach

i think the whole fiasco with peppers was the biggest failure of them all.

it caused the mistake with jake, AND it was pointless to pay peppers that much money for one season when he didnt want to be here. he should have been traded for a draft pick

So we're coming off a 12-4 season, and you want to let your best defensive player walk with no compensation. Seriously?

And Jake had a pretty good year before the playoffs meltdown. But I forget, around here we make judgments in the context of the one game/decision that supports them and forget the rest.

Too tired tonight to go back and look at every draft from Hurney. What I do know is he failed to draft a franchise QB (and he had opportunites at Ben, Flacco and even to get Brees as a free agent, all better than what we had), he failed to draft have decent DTs, he failed to find a 2nd receiver. He's failed at a lot of things. Instead of getting something for Peppers, Peppers walked. He wrote a check to Delhomme that could choke a horse and the deicsions on Peppers that lead to Delhomme, put us were we are now with absolutely no depth on the oline.

As far as the message it sends, maybe it should be, we want the best, not the good, not the want to be best, the best, and for that reason, Marty, you can either go back to salarly cap or you can leave, but, you do not get to judge talent anymore, and that, after all is his job on draft day.

He had the opportunity at Ben? That was the year we drafted 28th, right? What trade did you know about that we all missed?

And the last time I checked, Brees was coming off surgery and had been released by the Chargers. Why on earth would he even consider coming to Carolina, when there was no guarantee to start? Brees chose New Orleans over Miami, Carolina wasn't even in the running. And yes, he could have taken Flacco (who was largely considered a reach) over Stewart, and said goodbye to our 12-4 season that year. Hell, it's not like Flacco has even proven to be a Franchise guy yet, but hindsight ROCKS!

He signed Kemo and Lewis, who anchored our line for years. And he drafted Gross, Gamble, Wharton, Davis, Williams, Marshall, Anderson, King, Beason, Kalil, Johnson, Stewart, Godfrey, Connor, and Martin. Which one of those guys would be warming the bench on most NFL teams? And then there are all the other guys who are still rising, like Gettis, LaFell, Hardy, Fiametta, Goodson, Schwartz, and Clausen.

You see only the negative, when the positive far, far, far outweighs it. Get over it already, Hurney's a good GM and we're fortunate to have him.

seifert had complete control as did capers after polian left. capers is best known for giving up two top 10 picks for sean gilbert & people complain about hurney
