Hurney shouldn't be fired for two main reasons

actually he and fox were quite good at finding diamond in the rough style players.

http://www.panthers.com/team/history/free-agency-history.html

yeah I'm sure you'll get right on this

and plenty of players that he never even tried to bring in.

free agent wise? nothing, he wasn't allowed to add payroll this year.

before the connor injury, 8 of the 11 starters on the third best defense in the nfl were drafted.

last year when they had the best running game, 4/5 offensive linemen, the tight ends, the qb, and both running backs were drafted by him.

well it's about the only thing exciting anyone this year.

everette was an insurance policy in case peppers decided to hold out. the reason they didn't trade peppers in 2009 was because they felt like they were in a very good position to compete, and if not for that jake delhomme meltdown out of nowhere they would have.

I mean hell I wouldn't mind a head coaching job I'll take the Panthers'. I'll even give them a deal.

There's a reason Al Davis had to hire Art Shell away from his bed and breakfast.

If fox had resigned (not re-signed you barely literate cretin) he would have lost around 6 million dollars in guaranteed salary. That ain't smart.

Marty Hurney is Jerry's guy.

Ok look at your link and you just made my point for me...look at the last 3 years for free agency. we have sucked miserably there...

you think we have the 3rd best defense in the nfl? lol

I'll even concede on the peppers argument, but still I feel like at this point, no matter how many valid arguments can me made that Hurney should be fired, you wont ever throw in towel, and thats ok with me.

Well it was fun debating with you either way but now i'm kinda of bored with it and Jerry dont read the huddle anyway.

Bad: Landon Johnson (who was incredibly productive in Cincinnati) and DJ Hackett

Good: Tyler Brayton, Keydrick Vincent

Everyone Else: Just warm bodies that weren't expected to do anything

in 2009 and 2010 he wasn't allowed to sign anyone for different reasons.

hitting on half your signings isn't exactly sucking miserably.

well it's quickly dipping due to the offense. now they're about 11th, last week 8th. earlier in the year they were top 5, but it's very difficult to judge them given the state of the offense.

I dont know how to make a poll, but this thread has had plenty of views by now, lets let the rest of the huddle decide. If you dont mind please start a poll asking if he should be fired or not

Make one. Because after all, the Huddle is a bastion of reason and rational decision making.

BTW, make another about firing Fox, about forcing JR to sell, and about if we have talent. The four combined might make you into a Saints fan. :)

I agree, I don't think he should get fired. I've thought for a while now that he has a contract done already and is here for the long haul and will be picking the new coach.

He has an extension offer. No word ever came down that he had signed it, but neither is there any reason to believe it's been retracted.

Speculation would be he isn't signing it so as not to obligate Richardson should there be a lockout (pretty unlikely to think Hurney is strapped for cash).

Yea, last time he got an extension...the team didn't announce it for months...so it wouldn't surprise me if he signed it and the team just isn't announcing it at the moment because of how the season as gone.

You guys that keep challenging us to find a GM better than Hurney, can YOU find one with a longer list of poor moves than that? Marty Hurney is one of the worst executives in the league.

Most of your poor moves were moves forced upon him by the Owner... Hoover - Owner

Moose - Owner

Having a bad team with lots of Rookies and no vets, with a lame duck coach - Owner

Chris Harris trade - Owner

Also every team has bad draft picks, take a look at every teams drafts over the past 7 years and you'll see as many bust if not more on just about every NFL team. I'll go over a few though

Jarrett - given - bad pick...

Brown - still only in the league for 2 years, so far not good, but can't say bust or bad till after year 3.

Edwards - same thing, only 1/2 through year one...can't call it yet....

At the time, most in the NFL were going Morgan over Witherspoon...it didnt' work out because of Injuries...can't really fault the GM for that, but I'll give it to you...

You can't count tagging peppers and letting him walk as bad...the reason he was tagged was to reach a contract agreement...it never happened...players walking for nothing happens all the time....Some of the best teams do it...Steelers...Pats...etc...

So that leaves you with lets see

Delhomme, which was a good decision at the time because it gave the team options in the cap when it didn't have any...never hurt the team really....they were going to play Delhomme anyways...he was the Starter no matter what going into the season...Beacuse of Fox....

A couple of bad trades for DT's when we needed them for middle to late draft picks.. A couple of bad FA pick ups.....

On the flip side you have

His drafting ability and the Panthers having the 7th best record in the last 7 years....

You're convinced he should be fired. I'm not. Neither, apparently, is Richardson. And you want me to prove that he shouldn't be, when he won't be?

And without even looking it up, Matt Millen. Jerry Jones. Rod Graves. A.J. Smith.

Better/as good as Hurney? Ozzie Newsome. Bill Polian. Jerry Reese. Kevin Colbert.

Most of the GMs around the league haven't been in their jobs very long, for what it's worth.
