Hurney shouldn't be fired for two main reasons

Even 2008's draft is looking worse and worse as the days go by with Otah looking like glass. The last draft that still looks good is 2007 and even THAT draft saw us draft Mr. Dwayne Jarrett in the 2nd round.

Expecting everything to hit 100% is exactly how wall street got us into a depression... Just saying.

On Armanti- Judging that pick now is pointless, we just need to wait it out and see how he develops. He was obviously a project and if he is ready to go next year that's the exact same thing as drafting a guy in the second next year who already has a year of learning the NFL game. I think that's what some people are failing to see, yes it's taking a risk but would you spend a second round pick on a guy who could be in the mold of a Wes Welker? I know I sure as hell would. I have no idea what this guy will turn out to be but rushing to judgement after only half of a pooty ass season is not advisable.

You can judge that move more than any other in the last 4 years and point that it is the most questionable move of any of our drafts.

Otah, minus his injury was a huge win.. Everette Brown was the highest rated pass rusher in the draft(projected first round) until his height became an issue.. I can rationalize both of those moves.

Armanti Edwards with the 3rd round pick and giving up a 2nd which now looks like a 33-35 pick in 2011. on an unpolished project with no elite phisical tools other than his speed agility... which other guys had in this past draft see $th round and beyond guys: Mardy Giliard, Mike Williams, Jacoby Ford, TE Tony Meoki, CB Brandon Ghee..(hello Rich Marshall is killing us with no replacement.) he would not have been drafted ahead of these guys in my opinion.

I feel that was a Jerry Richardson call to Hurney because Armanti goes against Wofford and JR has a keen interest the in Division 2 or subdivision whatever- The Golden Calf of Bristol legend and killer of Giants.

1. Overall, the good with Hurney outweighs the bad. Everyone is transfixed by the horrors of Everette Brown and Jake Delhomme, but I doubt we'll ever know the full story behind that. For all we know, there might be a reason Fox was kept out of drafting after the 2009 season. Hurney is also fantastic with contracts, something that can't be overlooked.

2. Most importantly, it sends a terrible message to any potential replacement. Here's a guy that just did what the owner instructed him to do, and on top of that has been paraded out in front of the media every week to be pilloried. The guy has no more swords to fall on, yet has become the defacto face of the franchise in lieu of the owner.

To fire him after all he's done (sacrificing his public and professional reputation for Jerry's vendetta) would basically tell every other potential GM that the owner will flush you down the drain the second it's convenient.

We're already going to have enough trouble finding a coach after the way Richardson has handcuffed Fox. Let's not make it a GM as well.

I will admit that I have not read the entire thread, but I will do so.

1. Recent actions both "good" and bad are not outweighed by Hurney's inability to find or even go after an "elite" QB.

2. Hurney is good with contracts.

I think that we need a breath of fresh air at the GM position.

Hurney acquired a QB that in three years won 29 games, 5 playoff games, and went to a conference championship and superbowl before the team imploded around him in 2006 (offensive line crumbled) and he hurt his arm in 2007. He did this without a running game except for two of those years, and with a running back as his number 2 receiver in 2005.

if you're upset that he's not tom brady or peyton manning, only 2 teams have those players, and with the exception of Joe Flacco, there hasn't been an obvious opportunity to upgrade the position.

i've written novels on why the panthers couldn't draft flacco at the time and i don't feel like rehashing it.

i mean you idiots seem to think finding this "franchise qb" is easy as snapping your fingers

"oh i think i'll go find a qb to build the team around for ten years when never drafting before the middle of the first for basically my entire tenure"
