How do we clinch a playoff birth this weekend?

The previous poster is correct: If we win against Denver and EITHER the Falcons or Cowboys lose on Sunday, we clinch a playoff spot.

HOWEVER, we'd definitely be better served if Atlanta beats Tampa. If that happens, we only need to beat the Saints in the finale to win the division, even if we lost to both the Giants and Broncos and then turned around and beat New Orleans in the last game of the year we'd still be South champs due to a better division record. But wins over both the Giants and Broncos would wrap it up as well.

However, if Tampa beats Atlanta and then wins its last two games and finishes 12-4, the only way we win the division is if we run the table and finish 13-3. Tough sledding

If you want another team to cheer for this weekend ... cheer for Chicago on Thursday. If the Bears beat the Saints and the Falcons beat the Bucs, the Saints are eliminated from the playoffs (would be guaranteed to finish last in the South) and they would have nothing to play for in Week 17 ... besides spoiling our season, of course.

That isn't even close to being correct. An AFC win means very little to us, and if anything, the fact that we would be 4-0 against the AFC would hurt our chances in tiebreaker situations.

Even if Atlanta beats Tampa Bay and we win, we could all finish 11-5. Since we would all have three losses in the NFC South in that scenario, the next tiebreaker is conference record. Since our conference record would be the worst it could possibly be with an 11-5 record (7-5), we would lose the tiebreakers.

We can clinch the division in two weeks, but not this week.

While I do agree with you that AFC games mean very little, but not this one. We beat Denver we get the tie breakers. Giving us the Division. We don't need help from other teams as long as we win. So, What I said wasn't wrong, I just didn't bring up the Giants, because I just figured everybody knows we have to beat them. But as usual solorca, needs to prove he is smarter than everybody while I give everyone the benefit of the doubt...

To clinch a wildcard:

A win plus a Dallas loss and an Atlanta loss we clinch at least the first wild card

A win plus an Atlanta loss or Dallas loss we clinch at least the 2nd wild card

To clinch the division:

A win this week with a Tampa loss and then a win in New York or...

A win this week with a Tampa loss and a loss at New York with an Atlanta and Tampa loss in week 16

To clinch homefield:

A win this week and next with a Tampa and New York loss this week

Clinch playoff berth tis week with win AND Atl loss or tie AND Dal loss or tie.

Clinch division over rest of season by winning same # of games as TB AND one less win than Atl.

Clinch division over rest of season by winning one less game than TB if Atl wins vs. TB this week AND we win vs. NO in week 17.

If Atl wins vs. TB Sunday AND Dal wins vs. NYG Sunday AND Car wins vs. Den Sunday, then Car can clinch playoff berth AND division title AND home field advantage throughout with win vs. NYG in week 16.

If TB wins vs. Atl AND Car loses vs. Den this Sunday, TB retakes the lead, and controls their own destiny in NFC South.

If Atl wins vs. TB and Car loses this Sunday, Atl wins division with two more wins AND Car week 17 loss vs. NO. OR Atl wins division with one more win and two Car losses.

NO cannot win NFC South.

NFC South winner will have first round bye unless division winner finishes 11-5(NFC South winner cannot finish worse than 11-5) AND Min wins all remaining games OR AZ wins all remaining games.

again, its EITHER a dallas loss or ATL loss, plus panthers win to get it locked up.

reason is simple, bucs, panthers or falcons must win the division (1 down). so now 2 left that can could at best tie if we win sunday (boys and falcons, if we assume the bucs won the div for a sec) if either loose (and goto 8-6) and we win (11-3) we are in, as the looser couldnt tie us (best they could do is 10-6), nor could any team that has 7 wins (best mark of 10-6 or 10-5-1 for eagles) atm. so we win and get 1 loss outa EITHER the falcons or boys and we are in.

Actually in this case AFC games could be very important. Common games are the 3rd tie breaker, AHEAD of conference games, and we play the same AFC teams as the rest of our division. Its very likely we could have the same division record as the Bucs (both 3-2, with one to go), and we are 1-1 head to head.

This weeks game is very important.
