Wondering about Clausen...

none of us know for sure what a new coach will do, nor what our rookies will do from here on out.

a lot of it will depend on drafts, who is available, and who the coach is. I personally do not think Moore will remain here, but I think part of that will be his choice too.

I was with you until this statement...

I'm just saying, with another coaching staff Colbert and Jarrett might have been decent WRs, but we will never know for sure. At least with a change coming to Carolina, Clausen might have a chance in the NFL. If the new coach even sticks with him or trades him, but at least he will have a shot somewhere.

Again, that is your assumption. I don't need to rehash all the reasons why I think Moore will stay.

Jimmy better step his game up or Pike will be the rookie QB everyone is talking about in Carolina.

Matt's play in the first half made me cringe. Jimmy's play in the second half made me feel shame. By the time Pike came in, I was so drunk all I can remember is the two horrible punts he threw. All three of them are putrid options to play QB in the NFL right now...

But that's life homie, at least Jimmy threw that nice pass to Smitty that was called back for no reason.

I wish we could put Jeff Davidson on IR.

I'm not sure how to respond to this...

Agree with others, Clausen is a WCO QB... Montana had a wet noodle for an arm and did pretty good in the right system. I'm not saying Clausen is Montana, he may be a bust - the jury is still out - but I think the biggest problem at the moment is that Clausen is a square peg and we are a round hole.

...I also think Clausen is a little shell-shocked from his time at ND. Turn on tape of just about any game he played at ND and you'll see him running for his life and/or getting drilled on about 80% of the snaps he took. I think this is the source of his happy-feet issue... he's got that ND clock in his head.

I thought he ran the same offense at Notre Dame? Him, Fox, Hurney, Weiss have all come out and said it's literally the same offense. Wasn't that a big reason he would come right in here and compete?

I think there is something else besides the offense that is his problem.

I thought Moore was done here before the torn labrum, now I'm sure he's done here and maybe done in the NFL?

Same concepts, but not the exact same offense... we run allot more play action then he was asked to run at ND and play action requires a big arm and the ability to make a read in a split-second and deliver the ball.

Having said that, I'm not sure he was well suited to this type of offense even at ND, which may have been the source of some of his problems, and those problems are only going to be magnified in the NFL.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Clausen would be a great QB if we would run a WCO - he's definatley got some issues right now that have nothing to do with the offensive scheme we're running (you can't fumble snaps in the WCO either).

Actually the labrum isn't that bad of an injury for QBs. It's on the inside of the shoulder and is far less severe/dangerous than a separated shoulder or a rotator cuff injury. There is no risk of it being habitual, like there is with Stafford and his shoulder problems or Bradford and his. Once it get's separated it can happen again just as easy but with this injury it's more of a one time thing.

I thought a torn labrum was the injury Brees had in SD and folks thought he might be done as a result of that injury?

I know he also had a torn rotator cuff, but I remember folks saying the torn labrum alone might have a significant impact on his arm strength, accuracy, etc...

Not sure about the Brees injury I just know it was his shoulder. I think everyone was just scared because they were unsure but more information has become available since then. Also they had Rivers in their back pocket so it made the decision easier.

The rotator cuff is the main issue, along with separations.

I would almost liken it to the ACL, MCL, and PCL. If you tear the PCL, it's almost no big deal because it doesn't require surgery and will heal on it's own (only the Labrum does require surgery) but the MCL and ACL are more dangerous, just like the separation and rotator cuff.
