Steeler guys will get discussed because of where they come from. Not sure they'd be a good fit though.

Yasinskas is still suggesting Trgovac could go to Jacksonville, but if so it may not be as DC. PFT was reporting they were hiring another guy for that job (Mel Tucker).

Nothing about the KC defense suggests to me that Herm Edwards knows a thing about pass rushing, which is what Panthers football on the defensive side is predicated on. One person I would like to see is Bob Babich of the Bears as a possible option. He would make a beast out of Beason and our run D. Everything starts with the run D, if you can't defend the run, you can't defend the pass.

Dark horse, Paul Pasqualoni of the Dolphins. I like the prospects of what he would do for our secondary and our emerging star, Chris Gamble.

Fox will probably promote Mike Gilhammer as our DC

Dave McGinnis is a longtime favorite of mine. he ran great defenses as the DC and head coach of the Cardinals and has been working on the staff of defensive mind Jeff Fisher since being let go from Arizona. Add in that he and Fox are acquainted from their days coaching against each other in the old NFC East.

"Acquainted" doesn't quite cover Fox and Herman Edwards though. They're old buddies and you'd have to believe Fox would want Herm here if, as expected, the Chiefs let him go. Herm's never been a DC, but he was a defensive coach and like Fox is a "player's coach". Plus, he's been a head coach, so DC should actually be a little less demanding.

Then there's Sean McDermott. No connection to Fox that I know of, but he's the "hot young name" out there now and comes from Jim Johnson's school of aggressive D in Philly.

Plus, he's stuck in the shadow of Jim Johnson. He could very well be an effective defensive coordinator. But Johnson's presence there keeps him stuck as a position coach.

He'll probably take a coordinator's job in a heartbeat.

So we really hate him that much for saying he wants to change? It happens. If we happen to garner his interest back, maybe we will be his happy fit again.

I don't like him and I don't hate him. He is a freak athlete that is a factor in games regardless of his "heart" level. This is the NFL where you hope to find and maintain talent that eventually gels into a team. If the other players hate him, fine, he is damaging the team. But that doesn't seem to be the complete case.

as far as DC, herm edwards would not surprise me, especially if fox has a voice in the matter. seems like he'd love to have someone in his corner on the coaching staff. he and herm have history. could also go a long way towards getting the new defensive position coaches "on board" with fox.

we need cohesiveness in the defensive coaching staff. seems like we haven't had much of that in the past couple of years.

What about Mike Nolan? If he was already hired by a team then please don't bash me too much.

I actually like the idea of Mike Nolan as a DC, not as a head coach. Too bad he's w /the broncos.

However, I hear that he isn't exactly the best when it comes to dealing with players. I still think he has some great talent on the defensive side of the ball. Dunno how he'd mesh with players. The guys in San Fran didn't seem to like him.

Reports are showing that Jim Hasslet might be a top candidate for the Panthers. Dunno what I think about that...

I like the idea of McDermott.
