Chris Harris Speaks On the Panthers and Coach Fox

He's right, at the end of the day there's only so much a coach can do in terms of execution - but I have some real questions about playcalling, musical QB's, etc...

Even a great coach runs his course at a certain point, I've thought it was about time for a fresh start long before this season.

While that's true, it's very clear that John Fox has no intention of actually developing these players. Raheem Morris doesn't have exactly the best talent around and his team has a winning record and his players are improving every week. We have a lot of talent on this team, which begs to question whose fault is it if the talent isn't being utilized correctly?

Why would a coach be interested in developing players when he's working on a one-and-done contract?

Because it's his job. He's being paid $6m to do just that. If he didn't want to JR gave him every opportunity to opt out of his final year if he wanted to.

Right, JR gave him the opportunity to quit or hang around and make 6 million dollars... which would you take?

I think JR is just cleaning up the mess he let Foxy has created over the years. He also prolly thought Foxy was a better coach than this, and could coach up some wins.

Also a possibility. I think it's a culmination of JR's frugality (real word?), and John Fox's tunnel vision and loyalty that led us to where we are.

Fox only knows one style of ball, and plays guys accordingly. We are in a year where those guys were all purged, and JR didn't spend squat to get anyody in here to help mend that.

That brings us to the present, where we have a HUGE number of inexperienced players, be it rookies or first year starters, playing in a system that has ZERO margin for error.

The Colts/Pats/Eagles/Saints drop a 25 yard pass, it's not a huge deal because they are structured to overcome it. If one of our guys drops it, we are screwed for that series and will end up punting. Depending on field position, this could screw us on the next series too. Also on that line of thinking, if we don't get a hole to run through on first and second downs and don't get into 3rd and manageable situations, we are screwed again.

One thing I will agree with you LP is that Fox certainly does deserve his share of the blame. We constantly are in the bottom of the league in converting 3rd downs, and that's because of the system IMHO. When it works to a T, you get two 1100 yard rushers. But if there is one ***** in the chain, you get two 600 yard rushers. Foxball is outdated, and there is a reason why no name guys can flourish in Indy (Pierre Garcon??? Really???), but rookies can't develop here worth a damn. There is just no margin for error whatsoever on this team.

so true. Fox can't develop young guys; he relies on them watching and learning from old guys...

lol me too man... I also found it interesting that he said Fox has nothing to do with the offensive play calling... I operated under the assumption that he was dictating what was called to Davidson.

You and all the other idiots who atarted that theory ignore every shred of common sense to even make that assumption.

Can't count how many times I've tried to point out the obvious...but it doesn't matter....cause so many want to hold fox accountable for offensive play calling.

Fox has always wanted an OC that agrees wth his run first mentality, but after that..he let's his oc do his job for the most part.

I will say I'm disappointed that fox has kept davidson around...but I can also understand why he would keep him around through the end of his tenure here.

fox is accountable for bad offensive play calling. it's his team. it's his coaching staff. it's his OC. the buck stops with him.

he puts the OC into a box. he got an OC that doesn't mind being in a box. you can't run a team that stays competitive doing that kind of thing....not when the league is changing around you. when you put everyone on a leash, you limit what they can do and how far they can go.

Depends on who was looking for a coach. But more importantly if I chose to stay I wouldn't half-ass it just because I wasn't going to be there the next year.
