Mid-season firings rarely accomplish anything.

Not saying I disagree, but could it do any worse? Really?

At this point, firing Fox wouldn't do any good, we should keep him until the end of the year. At least Fox has shown he CAN salvage some wins in a season thats already gone.

But Davidson hasn't proven poo in his entire career. All he's proven is he has no idea what the fug he is doing.

Fox will get another job after he leaves Carolina, but Davidson won't. Firing Davidson now would not hurt us in any way. ANYONE could do a better job.

I don't get the Davidson bashing... I mean, hasn't it been proven with Henning and Trgovac that they weren't to blame when they were here?

Its very possible Davidson is just as handcuffed as Henning was.

Also doesn't Davidson have a ring?

34 - 3

Henning was able to score points wearing the same hancuffs as Davidson, not to mention a Superbowl appearance.

I was gonna make a thread about what I just heard on NFLN and it was an awesome debate between Deion and Irvin about the Dallas situation, but being that this thread relates - here you go:

(I KNOW I'M WORDY, SO FEEL FREE TO SKIP TO THE RED TEXT FOR A MORE SUCCINCT VERSION)

Irvin was going all homer mode and screaming how Wade should be fired without saying it implicitly... Talking about "they're tarnishing the Star, how long do you let this go on and affect the legacy of the Cowboy tradition... blah, blah, blah..."

He wouldn't shut up, and kept cutting Mooch and Deion off when they tried to say something about NOT firing Wade Phillips. Irvin said everything but "FIRE HIM!" Asking how can these players follow a guy that is so dejected at the post-game presser? How can guys find answers when the coach just said he doesn't have any? How can the players follow a guy who's not giving them 'fighting words' and has no fight left?

So, Deion waited and let Irvin finish. Then Deion said he (Deion) was never a guy that looked for answers from the coach. The coach isn't the guy out there playing or executing. He pointed out that Wade mentioned in the post game that the Packers ran the same play that killed the Cowboys multiple times last week or something like that, and they just aren't stopping it. He didn't throw the players under the bus, but he inferred that they aren't executing whatever is called b/c he knew the screen was coming.

Deion said he doesn't need a coach to tell him what to fight for... He didn't look for the coach to do that. At times like this, he looked around him on the field and looked for guys that are going all out. He said the manager is looking for 'dogs' meaning guys that don't quit and are laying it all out there. Then Deion said, making that one move and firing a guy like Wade Phillips - the coach, is not gonna change that these players suck. No matter how talented they are, if the guys aren't playing with their all, it doesn't matter what the coaches do.

Irvin then said, but it'll send a message.

Deion countered with, so will getting rid of some of these players.

And finally, the biggest point Deion made, was this - What difference does firing the coach make, when this was the same coaching staff that led the Cowboys to the playoffs last year? It's the same staff that took them to a good season the year before that (his words referring to the Cowboys). So did the coaching staff turn dumb all of a sudden? No. It's the players.

Now, everyone around here knows I've ripped Fox a new one concerning his coaching. We all have. Same about Davidson. I'm sure some of it is deserved. But, as Deion suggested... Are we really this bad? I'd say the talent the Cowboys have and the talent we have is comparable (except for QB when they have Romo). So is Fox really that bad of a coach? Or how much of it is players who just don't give a poo in a throwaway season?

Another thing to think about... When you have so many guys playing for their next contract in the expiring year of their current deals, you don't think that affects their style of play? You don't think they put too much pressure on each play? Or if it comes easy to them, you don't think their first priority is to look good themselves, individually, so they get paid? All of the elements surrounding these players suggest to me, that what Deion is saying is so true in this instance.

Fox is no Lombardi, far from it... But, is he really that horrible of a coach? Even Davidson facepalmed this year. Why would you facepalm your own play if it's executed correctly and works? You wouldn't. I think Fox is an average to good coach, not a great, ingenious X's and O's guy, but a great player-coach, a master motivator... He should at worst finish middle of the pack in a season even considering all of his flaws.

There is much more going on in this locker room than what we want to believe.

I'm not so sure of that, for a couple of reasons.

One, if Fox still likes Davidson, he could easily take him along on his next job as his OC.

The other? Coaches get recycled a lot in this league, even ones that don't look so good. Danny Crossman has a job. So does the guy who was so bad that he was replaced by Danny Crossman. Somebody could easily say "he looked good before; maybe this year wasn't his fault".
