Feeling Irrelevant Much???

I would like to point out that Beason's 'big plays' in prior seasons has amounted to 1 forced fumble, 7 interceptions and 3 sacks. His interceptions invariably came in passing situations, so considering Connor leaves the field allowing Beason to take up his old position, not much should have changed. Of course he had some huge tackles dotted around, but to think he was a turnover machine before this season is a touch misleading.

Beason was quality because of his fire and never say die attitude. A consummate pro and leader, he rarely was seen making mistakes and set the tone for the defense.

He is still doing that, however we are seeing the emergence of Dan Connor, James Anderson and Charles Johnson, meaning we are starting to form a core of young guys. Considering Godfrey as well, it's purely that we are no longer a 'one man team'. Sure Pep was here, but he never was as in your face as young guys are when they are playing well.

Basically, it's not that he is playing badly or not having an impact, it's simply that others are as well.

"I think for the most part I've done a decent job of filling in,"

This is telling though, he doesn't want to stay there. Maybe if the plays and money starts to flow his way, but he thinks he is moving back to the middle once TD is back. Maybe not this season, but possibly next.

That should mean any contract negotiation will be difficult as the two sides might consider his position in different places...

Beason said it’s particularly discouraging when teams run away from his side because he’s often required to stay on his side of the field.

“I wouldn't say I’m tentative, but a lot of time they run away from you, the action's away from you and you have to stay backside,” Beason said. “I feel like I'm out of the game a little bit."

And this is possibly why we are playing so well from a LB point of view. We actually have discipline there and players focusing on doing their job rather than wanting to make plays.

Good analysis. This big sacrifice and taking one for the team is pretty overblown.. Our defense funnels plays to the weakside and should give him big numbers. Plus he is just as free to make interceptions and force fumbles on the weakside than he is in the middle. What I gather is that he likes to roam around and fly to the ball and now he has to play disciplined and stay where he belongs. His biggest adjustments so far have been not sealing his side and allowing big plays because he is out of position. If he stays at the pace he is going he will have 160 tackles which is only 9 below last year. And it isn't like he had many sacks or interceptions anyway. And like you said, in a nickel look like we will play against the Saints all day, he will still plays halves underneath giving him plenty of opportunity to pick off a pass. Doing what is best for the team is his job, for which he is getting paid millions.

I said it when they made the move and i'll say it now....

How stupid can our coaching staff be to take one of the top 3 middle linebackers in the game and move him to a new position.

Beason isn't somebody you move around. He is your anchor and you find players to play positions around him
