I don't use words like epic, as it is used so much that it has weakened the meaning of the word -- especially when it is used in unepic ways.

But if I did use the word epic, I would think about using it on said globe. I seriously want one. I want to make a classy mancave one day. More like an old gentleman's lounge than anything. You know, rich mahogany and leatherbound books? This would work perfectly.

well, right... epic in the jack london i-sail-over-dangerous-seas-and-have-adventures sense, in the i-have-a-map-of-the-world-and-speak-seven-different-languages sense, as in the hey-who-wants-to-see-my-collection-of-ancient-artifacts-over-cigars-and-scotch sense.

my wife and i just got a two-bedroom apartment... she's letting me convert the second room into a study. so far i've got an awesome mahogany desk with an old-world map inlaid in hardened leather on the surface, a bunch of maps and three bookcases, and cool stuff from around the world. this globe is the obvious next step to sophisticated mancave nirvana.

good find. not sure i like that one though, the surface is much darker... i like the tone of the original one. i'll have to do some more digging around. either way i'm surprised they're that inexpensive... they look absolutely gorgeous

Now you've got me seriously looking for one of these! I think they're awesome, and I'd love to have a study like yours (or like you will eventually have).

I don't think I can pull the trigger even at $120, but I'm now looking at this little guy:

http://www.amazon.com/inch-Diameter-Italian-Replica-Globe/dp/B002RWP5NG/ref=pd_sbs_k_3

Edit: It won't fit a full-sized 750 mL bottle with the top down. Scratch that.

$46? under fifty for the same basic thing, and you can always just get smaller bottles of whatever you're looking for to fit inside it. beats the hell out of your kitchen cabinet and it's a classy start to your study...

Well, that's a good point. And I'd be storing whiskey in it anyway, which often comes in shorter bottles (and if not, maybe I could transfer to a shorter decanter). I keep my wine and beer elsewhere, but I usually don't have more than a couple bottles of whiskey on hand (as I'm just getting into it).
