Amateurs

Jeff Davidson called two trick plays that resulted in absolute disasters, a turnover on one while the other set up 3rd and 20. Also notice David Gettis was targeted I believe only once after a 2TD 100+ yard game that propelled us to victory a weak ago.

Ron Meeks saw the Rams come out early and settle for the underneath dink and dunk game plan. They did it early and often. They were still doing it when the game was decided. No adjustments to confront this. How about playing man to man or bringing in more corner backs? Seemed satisfied to hold Jackson from a big game while losing.

These guys are amateurs and so are the people who brought them in and keep them here.

I think Fox wants Meeks to give up the underneath stuff. Part of the bend an don't break mindset.

I'm an amateur, and I know it.

I do think it's funny that when Clausen was in, everyone was complaining we didn't run enough screens (granted we actually earned yards on them).

So then Moore comes in and we throw a bunch and they don't work and now Davidson's an idiot for running screens.

I'll say I think he isn't a great coordinator, point out how predictable he is etc, but I'm still an amateur and no, I don't think I can do better than him. But this is a forum, so I'm going to keep voicing my opinion about him anyway.

Don't turn this into a Moore thread you homer!

It's not that we're saying they'll never find work again, but there's this contingency of posters that think that Fox is going to drop into the free agent coaching market and auction himself off to every other team sans a head coach dropping stacks of money at his feet, and then all these Fox fans are going to look back at us like "HUH, YOU SEE?!! YOU SEE!!?????? HE'S TEJH GREATEST MOST RESCHPECTEDEST COACH THAT'S EVER BEEN IN EVER!!!!!"

there's at least just as good, or maybe even more of a chance of him taking a demotion elsewhere. Jim Fassel never held a position better than OC after leaving the giants, Dan Reeves never found legit work in the NFL again, and both those guys took their teams as far as a Superbowl appearance. Bobby Ross found work head coaching the Lions but that's still 1-2. There aren't too many examples of HCs like that in the last 20 years.

Fox might even prefer a demotion. Just spit balling, but being a HC could be overwhelming for him the last few years and he might rather be looking for a breath of fresh air even if he wants to eventually dive back in the deep end.

I actually think there's a pretty good chance that not only will Fox be a head coach somewhere else next year, but he may even have greater success in his new spot than he's had here of late. It's even possible you could see him taking a team to a Super Bowl within a few years.

And yes, if that happens, people will scream that it was a mistake to let him go.

But they'll be wrong :nonod:

It's not Fox alone or the Panthers alone. It's the combination of the two that's stagnant right now. Same thing happened with guys like Tony Dungy, Jon Gruden, Marv Levy and others.

Sometimes there just comes a point where a coach/team combo has reached the limit of what they can accomplish. In all honesty, I think that limit was reached last year (maybe even two years ago) but I can understand why Richardson would want to let Fox play out his final season rather than paying him for nothing. Regardless of what you think on that decision though, it seems pretty clear now that both sides could benefit from a fresh start.

Bottom Line: At this point, a split would be the best thing for both the team and the coach. Both could potentially go on to greater success apart than they would achieve together.
