The PFT article is here - Report: Saints hiding fracture, torn meniscus in Brees' knee

Kenny Wilkerson of WIST radio in New Orleans recently reported, with a high degree of conviction and passion, that Brees has a fracture and a torn meniscus in the knee.

Wilkerson cites an "impeccable source," and he claims that the information is "100 thousand-trillion-million percent" accurate.

Wilkerson also claims that, at times, the pain is causing Brees to make mistakes when calling or executing plays, citing unnamed sources in the offensive huddle.

Though we have no knowledge to confirm or debunk that information, Wilkerson's suggestion that Brees will need "microfracture" surgery to repair the "fracture" gives us pause. Though I'm no doctor (and every current or future medical patient in the world should be happy about that), I don't think "microfracture" surgery is used to repair "small fractures."

I believe the injury part, I doubt the microfracture suggestion. Microfracture, IIRC, is used for people who lose the cartilage behind their kneecap, or between the femur and tibia inside the knee.

Last I checked microfracture is used as a 'last resort' option because it hasn't always been successful and takes time to come back from, if you do. From what I remember, and correct me if I'm wrong, they drill a hole in the knee to cause it to bleed or scar behind the knee and act as an artificial cartilage and sometimes it doesn't work - Patrick Jeffers. Deshaun Foster had it as well. Reggie Bush, and in basketball Amar'e Stoudamire.

But, it sounds as though he only tore his meniscus/cartilage, that doesn't necessarily means he needs microfracture, may just need to let it heal and get it cleaned up. It's obvious something is wrong with him though. I've seen him get hit several times in the pocket this year and thought, "if that was last year he would've simply stepped up in the throwing lanes and made a play." It seems he gets stuck in one place a lot this year, which is why I believe he is a lot more hurt than the Saints are letting on.

Oh well, probably just sneaking into Payton's medicine drawer and stapping em up anyway...

No, if it's true and he hasn't been on the injury report, they'll pay for it. I wouldn't put it past Peyton and the Saints to do it, I just don't understand why Brees would do it?

It's the "trooper" mentality. Pretty common in athletes, but they pay for it later.

The NFLPA isn't too high on this stuff either, for exactly that reason.
