I'd say his ceiling is pretty high.  When I think of low ceiling, I think of limited traits which I don't see with him.  With that said I don't want to draft a project at 8.  If we trade down and get a decent return I'm good with drafting him later.

Barno needs to be replaced this season and will be unless he's a special teams ace. He has no value on defense. Johnson is in the same boat. If they take an edge rusher or 2 then those guys are gone after cuts.

And you have to think of roster spots--When I was in college the coach said, "This is the depth chart.  Look at it closely--some will be happy, some will be upset.  Understand that by the end of the season, this will look totally different.  So save this until December, and compare it to the depth chart then."  So I tend to think of the bottom of the roster that way--does a player show that he is trying to become a starter?  I did see it in Johnson a bit and in Hardy a lot.  I am not seeing it with these guys. 

I also consider the fact that Clowney will be gone in 2026 and Wonnum will not be under contract.   We have Jones for two years.  So if we add an edge in 2025 and again in 2026, we should be fine.  That is why part of me wants to take our time and see if anything materializes, but I just don't see it.  I have more faith in Barno, fwiw.

We have added DTs/DEs that can get to the QB and collapse the pocket. for that reason alone, our pass rush should be better.  Most QBs nullify a 9 tech by stepping up.  Take that away

Barno is the original Shemar Stewart. Incredible measurables and no production to show for it. I wish we would try some other things with him to try to make use of his speed, but if he's not able to contribute it really is time to cut his ass.

Good comparison--But Barno was a sixth rounder---so Shemar is much riskier, which illustrates your point.

Yeah, I can see him potentially being really good but I think he's more likely to be an underwhelming disappointment. Maybe not an outright bust but just meh. Like if we took this guy on the third round, yay. But top 10? Damn...

Barno needs to stay healthy and he can be a Mario Addison, Al Wallace-type second-teamer.

I haven't forgotten the splash plays he made when subbing for Brian Burns, or the fact he was one of two guys on defense who played well the last game I attended.

Pretty good plan imo considering the following RBs on the schedule:

• Bijan Robinson (x2)
• Alvin Kamara (x2)
• Bucky Irving (x2)
• Christian McCaffrey
• Josh Jacobs
• Kyren Williams
• James Connor
• Breece Hall

Plus there's back ups like Jets'  Braelon Allen, heavy rushing attacks like the Bills, and teams with an entire stable of backs like the Seahawks to account for.

This player needs to be a beast who can get to the QB.  Let the other guys play the run--see ball, get ball.

The problem with drafting a DE/EDGE high in the 1st is the bust factor.  That position group busts at a scary rate.  We HAVE to hit our first 3 rounds.  Cant take chances on tweeners or potential guys.
