European Travels

look into getting a eurorail pass. it'll make transit quick, cheap (relatively) and convenient.

as for the itinerary i am tremendously jealous... i think you can pull it off (though it'll be tiring eventually, jumping from place to place so quickly.) if you've never stayed in youth hostels before i highly recommend them - they're inexpensive and an absolute blast to stay in.

and of course, take lots of pictures :D

Please get as high as possible in Amsterdam and send me pictures of what I am missing outon. k thanks.

Some of my friends here in England went to Amsterdam and Bruges for a few days last week and I heard the stories. I can't wait to go. They all had spacecakes and then rented some bikes and rode around the city.... that's gotta be awesome. And with the tour of the Heineken factory, you get 3 free pints. I'll def be taking pictures.

Dude that trip is going to make you go through moolah like you won't believe. I take it you're already in London? You already know the ridiculous markup on, well, everything in London. Amsterdam is the same way.

As far as Rome, learn the bus system, as there are only 2 subway lines. Be careful where you eat in Italy. I hoped to get some authentic ravioli last time I was there. Instead I paid like 12 euro for a can of Chef Boyardee. I stayed at Jesolo Beach when I went to Venice - the hotel was like 1/5th the price of the ones in Venice.

The trip is very doable. Unless you get laid repeatedly in Rome, I think you'll regret that leg.

And London is much dirtier than Paris. I was surprised. Paris also smelled better. The worst smelling European city by far is Brussels. At the Eiffel Tower, you'll be mobbed by Bosnians refugees. Give as you wish, but just be cognizant that you'll be swarmed by them.

I haven't found London to be dirty at all. I quite like the city. As far as all the touristy things in London (Buckingham, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Picadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, London Bridge, etc) I was content with the half a day it took me to see all those things. There was only so much time I could spend standing outside of Buckingham Palace or looking at Big Ben before I was ready to move on. The city at night though... brilliant!

The beauty of EasyJet and Ryanair is that I can do this trip for about $260US LGW-AMS-SXF-VCE-FCO-LGW which is excellent. I definitely plan on hostelling as I'll be travelling with 5 of my other friends. So we should be able to save some money there, which is a good thing as my funds are not unlimited.

Why can't money grow on trees?

i have a feeling there isnt much you are missing out on...lol.

Anyway, I cant put your time constraints perfectly together in my head, but..

You could skip Berlin, fly to Munich instead. Spend time in Munich then take the train to Salzburg, only an hour or two if that much. You can then take the train from Salzburg to Venice. its a much longer trip, but you could do it overnight. Ive done this itinerary is why i mention it.

Do see Venice though.

Some of the other guys I'm travelling with wanted to go to Munich instead of Berlin. I would've been okay with either, but we found it cheaper to fly to Italy from Berlin as opposed to Munich for whatever reason and they decided they could be happy with a trip to Berlin, so Berlin it is.

I really wanted to go to Munich for Oktoberfest, but flights and hotel prices were (expectedly so) through the roof and I'm on a budget and student loans so I've got to be mindful of that.

The one place I said I wanted to go while I was over here was Auschwitz and I don't think I'll get to do that. I really have no interest in Poland as a whole, but me being Jewish, I just felt like that was something I needed to see and don't know when I'll have the chance again. I don't think it's going to work out, though. The flights to Krakow are so expensive and I don't think time will allow for it.
