Gold Fever TV Show

lol, what channel is it on?

Outdoor Hi Def channel. Not sure of the number.

I DVR it every Saturday. He does find gold! In fact, I was just flipping around the channels about a month ago and rediscovered my passion for hunting gold again.

In Happy Panther's post about needing a new hobby, I said about going prospecting for gold. I found a good sized rock when I was 9 or 10 with gold in it. (I was sure that where there's one, there were just more!) My Father took it to work and came home with the sad news. It was Pyrite, Fools Gold. :( I always thought about that.

I saw this show and immediately got the bug again! I bought a couple of sluices, joined GPAA (Gold Prospectors Association of America) and I have been learning how to pan for gold. It's a blast when you look down in your pan and see those flakes. I even have 3 decent sized nuggets to show for my efforts.

You're right about Massey being a hoot and a half! He overacts like crazy! He does go to some great places and some fantastic scenery. There was one show where he and his daughter were using gold detectors. She was finding nuggets left and right. She must have finding 4 for every one he found. His job when it comes down to it, is to talk with other people and share their experiences at finding gold. Some of those miners out west look like Gabby Hayes! (Old time movie cowboy sidekick.)

It gets into your blood when you see that gold sitting there! His Dad founded GPAA about 40+ years ago. He's been all over his entire life hunting for gold.

I kind of like it that he can share with his family. You never see Bear Grills take his family into the wild with him. I guess Billy the Exterminator, Steve Irwin and Dog the Bounty Hunter when it comes to Family. (AND, buy the stretch of the imagination, Hulk Hogan, Gene Simmons and Ozzy's old show.)

I never miss a show now! GOLD FEVER! :D

You are correct it does make me want to go ban for gold.

At $1350/ounce right now (Gold Price) you can spend as little ($25 for a pan & you can use ordinary garden tools you probably already have) or as much as you want to hunt for it. (Many $1000's of dollars for sophisticated machinery.) If you are a DIY kind of person, there are even plans that help you build equipment.

You can either do it from your home or apartment, like I have been doing until I move, or travel to one of the gold rich areas around North Carolina. Some people go as far and spend their vacations looking for gold. All long the West Coast (Arizona, California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana & of course Alaska) all are rich in gold. Of if you are into diving, they make metal detectors that work underwater.

GPAA figures that only 5% of the gold in the world has been discovered!

I'm in El Paso, Texas right now. Have you ever heard of Gold being found here? I think I would really like to do this. I like being outdoors. The only problem I have seen with trying here is that there is not any active rivers, but do you think the old streams and rivers that dried up years before may be a good place to look??

El Paso? I actually think there possibly could be. I'd take a look at the riverbeds
