Smith's leadership makes up for the lost step

Honestly, answer me this P55. Weren't you the guy who use to say Foster wore defenses down for Williams big runs? I know it is off subject, but you keep talking about credibility and such, so I can not shake that every time you say it. Especially after that Ken Lucas story.

But I'll play, under p55 rules how far back into Steve's history can I go? Honestly, to line up with your Lucas story I think it should be a month after that incident since that seems to be where you are saying Steve changed. I'll try to reply back tomorrow night assuming rl doesn't interfere.

Now you are doing the old kitchen sink routine. Throwing out everything but the kitchen sink hoping something will resonate.

Stick to the thread at hand. We are talking about Smith being a leader in 2010. Why can't you just address the point instead of dredging up old history to prove a point that isn't germaine.

Maybe I should accuse you of being a thumbsucker because you may have done it when you were 7. (It doesn't matter if you did or not) Does that have any credibility now? The past is the past. He wasn't a leader then he is making attempts to be now.

Why can't you just accept he is trying to change and move on. We will see in the near future if his actions follow his words. Until then we have to wait and see what happens.

I'd like to see Smith maintain his positive reformed attitude during our losing streaks in the weeks to come.

It's like when guys go to prison and read the bible and change, but then get out and it's the same old poo. I'd like for Smitty to have the fire on the field like when he slaps the poo out of himself after a first down, but not take it to the sideline and get all over his own team.

Yeah if you got on your own team that would disqualify you as a leader right? You better go tell that to Ray Lewis and other guys who are considered consummate leaders and give their own teammates a piece of their mind when they screw up.

Being the best receiver on our team does not make you a good receiver.

And I love the subjective memory of some folk- "Steve has always been willing to help out the other receivers". "He fought Lucas face to face". Jesus, according to some of y'all, we must be 6-1 with 4 Super Bowl trophies.

What is all this negativity about Smitty? Ask opposing DCs did Smith lose a step?

When Pep played like garbage we talked about him. When Stewart plays like garbage we talk about him......Godfrey, Moore, you name him.

Why not talk about 89 when he ain't bringing it.

Again where do you hear anything say he isn't being helpful. From what I heard he has been very helpful to the rookies in the film room and in practice. He took Kenny Moore under his wing and did his best although it didn't work out.

Breaking his arm had nothing to do with leadership, it came from his thinking it was no big deal. He has been playing flag football for years with no consequence.

I would agree that he hasn't been a leader up to this point and said so when they made him a captain. But that is why I linked this article, it was surprising to me. Now we will see if his actions match his words, but for me it is refreshing to hear him say what he did. That is showing leadership even if it years late.

Like I said, if he does indeed step up I will be thrilled to change my view.

That's not anything special because no one else on our team is a threat, it's like being the tallest midget. Not saying I think he has lost a step, but the DC argument is invalid.

In no way is Smith a leader. He might be pretending to be one this year but he is not a leader. One of the articles said he hadn't worked out with anyone in 9 years. Can you comprehend that? 9 friggin years? Jesus.

He also said during camp that he didn't feel the need to help out the rooks because they didn't come up and beg him so they must have it all figured out (paraphrased) and leaders go out of their way.

Do leaders show up their young QBs just because they aren't getting the ball? Yeah Steve Moore/Clausen might look somewhere else on the field on certain plays. Run your pansy ass back to the huddle and get ready for the next one. Manning missed Wayne on sure fire TD against the Texans. What did Reggie do? Turned around and went right back to the huddle (maybe to the sideline it might have been 3rd down). WWSSD? Stand there throw his hands up, look at the sideline in disgust, make some "Feed me" hand gesture, and walk back to the huddle.

Leaders don't give up on plays either. They play till the end. They lead by example and encourage with words.

But as long as he says "I didn't play well" after the game it's okay. All is forgotten. He's still a leader. Gotcha.
