at damn near par with the Canadian dollar for quite some time now...good for me, but in reality, it's bad for the Canadian economy

I wondered for a long time now, why the US & Canada hasn't combined to make one Currency.

Canada's monetary system, isn't based on the English Pound, it's line with the US monetary system. If Europe can go to the Euro, certainly the US & Canada can settle on one currency. The problem I see is the tariffs that the US imposes on Canada goods, especially lumber. A lot of the US cars are already manufactured in Canada, I would have thought that the automakers would love to see that. (Of course they don't carry the weight that they used to.)

I can see why the US wouldn't align itself with Mexico. Mexico's monetary system, undergoes massive changes every 10-20 years.

East and West Germany worked out their monetary system, and it was more convoluted than the US & Canada. The only reason I can figure is that Canada is still part of the Monarchy.

Do you really want to be associatted with Canadiens?

Its like that nieghbor that everyone thinks is trashy. Yeah, you have to live beside them because they moved in after you did and you don't have a choice in the matter really. However, you aren't going to start going over there to play poker on Tuesday nights because everyone in the neighborhood would think poorly of you.

hell...I know many many Canadians right now that are buying up sh*tloads of real estate in the US...dollar at par...prices are sh*t...it will be interesting to see what happens long term!

Sounds like wha the Japanese did to Hawaii. More of Hawaii is owned by the Japanese now than US citizens!

Japanese didn't have to bomb Hawaii to take it over, all they had to do was wait 40 years and buy it outright! Then, President Regan even pointed this out back in the 80's.
