I need a new hobby

Okay I just didn't want you thinking it was some easy task because you've seen it on TV.

I have played in it twice and won a total of 6 seats. Gave an extra one to my old man and gave another one to a buddy that put us up in a house in Vegas for a month to play other events besides the main event. Sold the other two. It's a grind but a great experience.

I put in some time before the kids came along at SNGs and made a good run. was hitting a 45% return for a while and then nailed a couple big tourneys. Made a big purchase with the winnings.

The next year my first son was born and i tried to qualify but only played 2 tourneys and missed. I have some time and would like to get good again

How about winemaking or homebrewing?

It fits in with a current hobby, and it will give you a lot more knowledge and appreciation of how wine and/or beer are made. Better still, you'll eventually be able to make libations that are just as good as or better than many commercial offerings, and you can do so at a fraction of the cost.

It's really easier than you might think. I know more about brewing than wine (even though I've yet to start brewing), but both seem pretty approachable and fun.

R/C car racing?

Oh wait you said low cash flow. I've dropped thousands in upgrades on $200 cars.

It fits all your other criteria, though.

Good one. i have a lake behind my house so was thinking boats. But yeah I could get addicted pretty quick

They do make rc sailboats. I know not everyone is into sailing like me, but instead of a rc motor boat that just goes across the water, a rc sailboat actually teaches you about trimming the sails in order to get the most speed out of the wind you have, and actually teaches you the art of sailing.

And unlike with rc cars & rc motor boats, I don't think there is that much more in upgrades to add once you have the sailboat.

Also, with no noise, you can keep doing it while on that work conference call and no one will know.

Just a thought.

I am self employed now and have some downtime. I may have a LOT of downtime next year. So i need some things to fill the day

First of all current hobbies

1) Running - but i am not the kind of guy who will just go to the gym for hours at a time. Max run over the next year would be 4-5 miles

2) Poker - working towards the WSOP next year. but I can't do this all day. Really an hour max for now

3) Xbox/PC games

4) Drinking/drugs - no drinking before 5:00 and weed in moderation

wtf, you have the best life ever...sounds like you have it all.

If you really have this much free time. Spend it with your progeny.

Thanks! A few more clients and i will be very happy i think. I have tried to make time for the kids especially the 5 year old. Most days when the bus comes at 4:00 i will grab him and do something. Smack some golf balls, go to the pub, watch a movie. The three year old just does his own thing

Interestingly there is a strange void in not having a structured day. I hope I never go back but there is something to get used to in not having to be in place X at time Y. Not dealing with politics etc...

Yeah but he is allowed 2 pints and that is it.

Honestly hitting a pub with outdoor seating (like Selwyn e.g.) around 4:00 is great. the kids run around, its not crowded so you aren't pissing people off, i actually talk to my wife.

And there's beer
