If you were in charge. Who would you cut/resign/trade?

Since there appears to be so many individual replies about personal opinions regarding who should stay and go, let's combine it right here.

Scenario: You are fully in charge. Taking only into account our current team (i.e., don't say you'd sign players from other teams or possible free agents), who would you get rid of and who would you resign? Break it down.

My take:

QB: Solid core. Delhomme is the man and needs at least another year to prove himself. Matt Moore was highly appreciated in both Dallas and Carolina. Young guy needs to develop. Get rid of Josh McCown. He couldn't do a dang thing with killer WR's in Arizona.

RB: Please. Don't change a thing. Goings is needed only for security. Might get rid of him.

WR: Get rid of Hackett and toss a coin to decide who goes between Jason Carter and Ryne Robinson. One of them must go as well. Mark Jones proved his worth as a solid PR/KR.

TE: Give King and Rosario another year. Carolina has rarely used TE's as recievers, so as long as the blocking up front is decent, no need to change. If Davidson decided to start including more TE receiving routes, maybe we need to get rid of Barnridge.

OL: About as good as it can get. Get rid of Hangartner. I'd say get rid of Bridges as well, but Keydrick Vincent's injury is questionable, so we need em both for security.

DL: Of course, franchise and trade Peppers to the AFC ASAP. Send him anywhere but NE or PIT. Get rid of Damione Lewis, keep Maake. Get a faster DE than Brayton. Keep Hilee Taylor and see if he grows. If not, time for him to go and insert Charles Johnson. Regardless, this group needs reorganization big-time.

LB: We are bloated with LB's for no reason. We aren't even a 3-4. Get rid of Adam Seward, Na'il Diggs, and Landon Johnson. Insert Dan Conner. As long as Beason continues his ways, do anything to resign him long down the line. Utilize schemes that better use Thomas Davis as a blitzer.

DB: Get rid of Ken Lucas. Insert C.J. Wilson. Watch after Richard Marshall. Another season of mediocrity will cut him.

K/P: Rhys Lloyd makes kicking safe. Baker is a good punter. Kasay is solid, but his age becomes a concern each year, but still no need for another kicker for quite awhile.

Coaching Staff: I'll get flak, but I'm still a fan of Fox and crew. Davidson needs to create more interesting WR schemes to spread the dang field. Not sure if that is his fault or the lack of any decent #3 receiver. I'll give Trgovac an extension, but no more than two years. I think one year is quite extreme enough to see if he can prove that he has what it takes. One year of sub top 15 performance (primarily in points allow per game and passing yards allowed) and boot him.

There is mine. Insert what you guys think.

P.S.- I can't help but say it, but I dream of a field were Steve Smith is lined up as #1 and T.J. Houshmandzadeh as #2. One can wish...

No point in 'getting rid of' Hackett, Carter or Robinson. None are expensive and let them battle t out in camp to see who sticks with the team. There would be no point in releasing players at this point unless it were to save cap money.

Again no need to cut Barnidge until someone pushes him out in camp. He is also potentially our best receiving TE, so by your logic he should be sticking.

OL: Why 'get rid of' Hangartner and Bridges? Hangartner will go if someone can offer him a starting gig somewhere otherwise I expect he will come back. Bridges may be cut due to his run ins, but I would have expected he would have been released already if that were the case. Either way I would keep him for camp unless his cap figure is high.

DL: Why oh why would we release Lewis when we do not have a replacement? what if our atempts to bring in a decent DT fail? Even if we did who would back them up? Lewis excelled as the third man, if we can re-work his contract all we need is a every down DT. Same scenario for Brayton, I think he could be our modern day Al Wallace but do not 'get rid of him' for someone faster, let camp settle that.

LB: Johnson is almost certainly out as he has not produced AND has a high cap figure for what he is contributing. Why why why would we cut Diggs when Connor as achieved nothing but get injured for the season? Seward is gone though.

DB: I would rather we re-structured and kept Lucas, at least until we can see a heir apparent. Aso is going to get franchised so we will not get him, so who would you get instead? At the moment you are replacing half our game day roster so we aint going to ahve much cap room left. Why are you cutting Marshall as well? So we could lose a starter and a nickel in the space of a season? I agree bringing in competition but pluggin Wilson in the starting role is a touch extreme, especially when Wesley was favored over him this season (yes I rea the Gantt article on him...)

This aint Madden. Yo do not CUT players who have little financial impact on the team and contribute. Keep them for camp and let the other camp dwellors fight them for the spot.

Only things we may do before free agency:

1.Attempt to resign Gross

2.Franchise and trade Peppers

3.Restructure and extend Jake

4.Restructure or cut Lucas

5.Cut Landon Johnson

All other players you want to cut will most likely be in camp battling it out for their roster spots. You DO NOT cut people when yo do not have a replacement already or one lined up. That is just Al Davis talk.

My take:

QB: Agreed. Although I wouldn't say Delhomme is "the man". I'd venture to say he's the best we have and besides this year, has been big in the playoffs.

RB: No changes. But if Goings is gone, then have to bring in a 3rd string back.

WR: We are good at WR. I don't see Carter beating out Robinson. 1. Smitty 2. Muhammad 3. Jarrett 4. Robinson/Hackett 5. Mark Jones doesn't go anywhere!

TE: We are good at TE. I don't see us finding any higher caliber players without drafting one early or getting a steal in FA. Very satisfied with these guys. Just not satisfied with how they are used. A tidbit to add would get Davidson calling more plays their direction or getting Delhomme to focus on them more... Deadly. Can't believe we haven't used them more, especially Rosario.

OL: Happy with our OL. Hangman stays, and gets paid (shouldn't break the bank). Bridges stays as well (depending on if his off the field issues culminates more than they have so far. Which included the possibility of him being "the one" who's name comes out for paying for escorts.

DL: Main thing to look at. Try my hardest to get high picks for Pep and get him gone. Bring in Haynesworth (he USED to have an off-field issue. So screw you all holding that against him, and especially being the same ones forgiving Smitty. Your logic sucks.) Anyhow.. Then put Johnson in more and if I can't find another DE, use Brayton. Swap Hilee Taylor out for either as the game goes on. And try to grab a better DE in the draft.

LB: lmfao@getting rid of Diggs. WTF? Diggs is starting, no doubt. This isn't Madden. Conner to get some playing time and get used to the position. Agree though we are good at this position. Get rid of Seward and see if it's worth keeping Landon Johnson around (wasn't bad at ST's)..

DB: Gamble starts. Haven't seen much of Marshall, but as the coach I would. Whoever is better/shows more promise between Lucas and Marshall stays. If Lucas is just better. Marshall is still good at Nickel.

K/P: No changes at all. Lloyd goes to the probowl next year. lol

Coaching Staff: Trgo goes. But would have done this earlier to try to grab a great DC... Then again, perhaps there were none to bring over so Trgo is staying. Fox gets another year to show what he's got.

HELL I like your post to. Well Done. And agreed you this is Madden you can't cut everyone then go get a whole new team. Whoever posted this would have had our whole team gone, by the time he was done with this post.

there isn't a player around i would cut. i would try to package them up with a draft pic to try and get more picks, though.

trade hackett and a 6th for a 4th

trade lucas and a 5th for a 3rd

trade mark jones and a 3rd for a 2nd

those may be poor examples but is still just don't like cutting off players who still have some value to them if they are under contract. We will probably have to pay for them if they are owed money so why not try and get someone to assume the contract and debt? why not try and get anything for them? Just don't go into the hole for them.

Trading is a tricky beast as it will amount to losing cap space. Again I feel it is a dangerous route to go as we will only be creating more holes to fill before we have a chance to fill our current holes. So we give ourselves mroe holes AND less cap room?

To Urrymonster:

My main point of all the cuts is for one of three reasons. 1.) Other teams may pursue them, so it isn't worth it to match offers unless they are incredibly low 2.) Save as much salary cap as possible 3.) Get rid of unnecessary players.

I intended this thread just as much for a "what-if" idea to spark convo on specific players.
