The Progression of David Gettis

1-6 out of the playoff race and a lame duck HC is as pressure packed as it gets?

sure there is some pressure all the time but Moore can play lose now because the season is shot.IMO.

Not being a professional athelete I can't assume I know how they feel or what pressure they feel or don't feel. Still I would think that a guy who is in a contract year would play with more pressure than a guy who has a three year contract and is set for life. I would also think that as the losses mounted it would be more pressure rather than less since he would feel his chances to prove he is a legitimate player would go down each week. Most of the time when teams are 1-6 they focus on individual goals rather than team ones give the season is shot. But again those are my observations looking in.

I would think the pressure is high on every guy but moreso on the quarterback who is under the microscope all the time. Guys like Gettis on the other hand are signed longterm and are rookies so I expect the pressure on him to be much reduced.

I agree, LFP - Too many excuses for poor play all around, and on multiple players & coaches. The offense is not doing well, period. There is not a single position or player I can point to and say, "They have been consistently producing at a high level." That is depressing.

Who do you bring in to replace Moore on the roster? And if you say a "vet" which vet will come in and take a backup role to an unproven rookie? Likely a vet that isn't very good. Now look around the league and tell me which Vet has better numbers and W/L in starts than Moore.

Maybe you just want someone for experience/mentoring which is fine but remember that Carr and those type of QBs are out there with "experience."

I'd say Marc Bulger, Chad Pennington, Tyler Thigpen, Michael Vick, then Moore.

How many QBs with noodle arms do you want on one team?

Thigpen a vet? He's started less games than Moore and came into the league at the same time.

I think Chad would be a good vet presence but the others I disagree with.

Vick isn't going anywhere either.

1) Jimmy Clausen has a stronger arm than Matt Moore. Moore certainly throws harder than Pike.

2) Sure, Moore has started 2 more games in his career than Thigpen but in Thigpen's full season as a starter he amassed 2600+ yards, 18 TD and 12 INT plus over 300 rushing yards. The ability to get out of the pocket with our present line situation is a major plus.

Clausen does not have a stronger arm than Moore.

I guess my point about Thigpen was do you really want to end up in the situation we are in now? Going into the season with roughly 15 starts combined from our QB stable?

Thigpen's numbers in starts aren't all that different than Moore's.

I can agree with that somewhat, but Moore was classically lost out there.

Usually went like this:

1. Didn't throw to Smitty when he was wider than wide open (many times cause Moore didn't compose himself enough to look to even glance towards where the pressure was coming from).

2. Smitty comes back to the huddle sayin' "Um, hey Matt..."

3. Matt realizes he f'd up.

4. Matt throws to a now double covered Smitty, missing the entire point.

5. A Smitty bat down/overthrow/INT

6. Rinse/wash/repeat

In the end the iffy-at-best WR and O-line situation is throwing the team back on Matt's shoulders while Matt is no where near capable of carrying that kind of weight.

The difference between Matt and Jimmy? Matt will never be ready for that kind of pressure. Jimmy may just not be ready right now.

In the end it results in one of the crappiest offenses I've ever had to watch since the Jeff Bowden era. Probably worse, really.

These kinda lists that try to be smart/funny, are just really bad. Assumptions are even worse.

Arm strength I guess depends on what you see. I saw Clausen throw passes that Moore couldn't throw in terms of distance, hence what I said. Then again I said Jake had a strong arm, people disagreed even after he won the '05 QB Challenge by out-throwing Leftwich, Vick, Warner and others with something like a 73-yard pass.

Why don't you think Moore can? They have similar numbers and you've said you've seen Moore's ceiling. It's pretty high right?

I don't think it's impossible. If he picks up his game and consistently limits turnovers and moves the ball, I'd say resign him and give him a shot. Problem with that is, does that lead to more musical QBs in 2011? I'd like to just settle it this year. If he keeps up his present pace, something like 11 TD 20 INT, let him go.

He's underthrown LaFell and Stewart on deep balls and Moore usually overthrows (not that that's any better) so I'm curious as to what distance throws you've seen.

Agreed he needs to limit turnovers but again there is a lot more going on than just the QB. A resemblance of a running game would help out any QB on our roster tremendously. Even when we threw for over 300 yards the run game was non-existent.
