Steve Smith leads NFC South in drops

But what is the POINT in bringing it up other than to rag on him? Who cares if he drops it here and there. He's still our best weapon, period. You take the bad to get the good. Moose dropped it all the time but he served us well. Please tell me the reason to discuss Smith's poor performance...as it is being done more and more each week. To say he should be a #2? He said that himself! Not to mention we have no control over that choice anyway.

By that logic what is the purpose of discussing anything on here? Why talk about Moore? To rag on him? It's the same for everyone. We don't have control over the QB situation.

It's a message board. Things like this get discussed here. People hate on Moore way more than Smitty and he can't be immune to it.

I've said numerous times the inane Moore/Clausen debate is pathetic and a waste of everyone's time. Yet when Clausen was in there, a handful of you hated to the strongest degree on him. Now that he's not, other people make fun of Moore while those previous handful defend him at every turn. It's crazy.

I've also said that it's stupid to divide a fanbase like we do. I'm not saying we have to support the product 100%, but to divide yourself over two players treating the other half almost like they are another team's fans is just sad.

So this week it's been all about Smitty's lost step, how the loss was his fault, how it wasn't Moore's fault, and how he should keep his big mouth shut. Blah blah fuging blah.

Look, there is a difference between simply discussing the game and the team, and acting like a bitter little ranting child. But I forget the age of some of the posters on here from time to time. My bad.

How is posting a fact that he leads the South in drops not an okay topic for discussion?

If you post a topic I'd love to talk about it. I'll be refreshing the main page all day. I'm on the West Coast so I'll be here until about 5:30 M-F (I don't post much on weekends cuz my girl gets mad) so create threads and we'll have meaningful discussion about topics of your choice!

I'm seriously ready for it.

And is tied for fourth most in NFL according to Pat Y. I really hope he keeps quiet if Moore or Clausen don't perform well at times, because I don't want his mouth to start writing checks that his ass can no longer cash. Not bashing Smitty, just saying I hope he's a part of the problem, and not the complete solution.
Is this stat with comparable targets? Meaning; are you comparing the total number of times that the WR's are being thrown to vs their drops.

IMO he is just trying to do too much. You see that on bad teams where the Star player tries to make every play big and ends up becoming much worse. This is Smiths problem right now. I mean he should not even be back there returning punts when Capt has done well enough. Thats just too risky for your best WR to be put out of the game for a PR.

I'm not bringing up this stat to rag on Smitty. I love me some Steve Smith. I hope he retires as a Panther and his number gets retired. I brought this up for the sole purpose of bringing to everybodies attention the fact that our offense sucks because of everybody. So to those that hate Davidson or Fox or Gross and the oline or Stewart or Williams or Jarrett or whoever else, that the man who has been the one positive constant on our team for seven years is also struggling. We ran the same vanilla scheme on offense against SF, but everybody executed so it worked, and the Davidson hate talk simmered down for a week. We run it against STL and there are no holes to run through and guys are dropping the ball and Moore makes poor decisions, and so the end result is a poo product.

Some of you may think that one drop isn't a big deal, but just one drop changes games. Smitty dropping the one that would have resulted in a first a good ways down the field was absolutely crucial against STL. That's all I'm saying.

Nobody should be immune to a little (hopefully constructive) criticism when it's warranted. I don't think that makes me a shitty fan. DVR the games and go back and watch the plays and focus on different players, not the ball. You'll see every position struggling to do their job.

Football is the ultimate team sport. Left tackle doesn't do his job and protect the QB, then he can't make his progressions and find the open man. When he does find the open man and he drops it, then you have to scan the field for other options next play.

I really think Smitty has been hobbled because of the ankle, because I watch him at damn near every snap and he hasn't had the same explosiveness off the line. Either that or his conditioning has fallen off and he can't sprint every play like he used to, which is also a very real possibility. And that mostly comes down to the lack of a threat behind him, so he always has to be on the field too much.
