Better offense: 1999 or 2008?

Plus I was responding to the Sea Monster, when he said Smitty is good, but we had two Smittys in 1999.

To which I said Jake is throwing the ball to Smitty( instead of Steve)

Which is true, if Steve B. played with Smitty, Smitty would be way better.

Jake doesn't have the skills to best use Smith, he leads him out of bounds, or throws the ball behind him and severely limits his YAC.

Instead he has to stiff arm the sh*t out of people or try to power past them.

Not to mention under throws or over throws him on every deep ball.

We have never had a super QB, then again we have only had one quality backup here. The trouble is that quality backup just so happens to be our starter.

Oh and, Steve B. never had the running game Jake has had.(1999 being real close though)(and look what Steve did with that above average run game)(as opposed to Jake with this years SUPER good run game)

What about the mobility factor? Beuerlein was a statue.

Other than the completely obvious thing being that Jake is far from mobile.

You do realize Steve B. has more rushing yards in his career than Jake right?

Jake has 7 rush TDs Steve 5. What mobility factor?

I know you have your "Jake sucks" blinders on right now, but believe it or not, he is mobile enough to step up into the pocket. Beurlein might have well have been glued to the ground. I've never seen anyone so slow...ever

Usually Jake stepping up into the pocket involves him getting stripped and he turns the ball over, but yea he can do that.

I didn't say Jake was a statue, but he sure don't use his miraculous mobility to pick up key first downs, or to extend the play to make a nice throw.

Usually when he does scramble it is just pro longing the interception he is about to throw.

Personally I think it would just be better if he didn't scramble, and just throw the INT instead of giving up our hopes that he's actually going to do something.

That is cute though, when people tell it like it is about Jake they have blinders on and are the devil, but if someone tells it like it is about Peppers they are smart and the second son of God.

It's ok man you think Jake is a good QB, your standards are that low, and I can't make you adjust your standards.

Hard to compare the two offenses. '99 was mainly about the pass attack and everything since '01 has been built around the run. Pass heavy offenses, when they work, will put up better stats than running offenses every time. But a reliable running game gives the offense more options on the field and greatly improves consistancy.

Given how much the '99 offense got banged up and how few injuries there were on the '08 offense, I gotta go with the more recent choice. Beurline's numbers and Jake's numbers were pretty comparable between the years, and Beurline had a much better choice of recievers, and the running game plain sucked in 99.

A lot of Beuerlein's yards came because we had an average or below running game and had to throw to score. The passing game was better than the 2008 team but it was much more one-dimensional. This year's team is better because they had more balance and the ability to run to control the clock and hold a lead.

99 was a West Coast Offense, so the passing would be inflated anyway.
