Biggest Busts In Panther History

When the Panthers worked out Jason Peter, he was a good bit smaller (6-1 in socks) and slower than they had believed. He had very short legs. The front office had little interest. There were good reasons to believe that he had taken steroids and other drugs, and he had discipline issues. Capers loved him because of his intensity and production and thought he could be a down LB in a 3-4. Once he quit taking the steroids he took in college, he atrophied and got hurt every time the wind changed direction. Just a God-awful pick when we could have had Vonnie Holliday (who's still playing).

I had to think about this one but its ether Sean Gilbert or its going to be E.Brown and Edwards. For the simple fact they cost us way more then they all were worth.

The rest of the guys in panthers history only cost us 1 pick. Above mentioned cost us a lot more.

Good points. I stll get ticked off when I think that we could have had Holiday. Rumour has it that he wanted to be drafted by the Cats, due to the fact he is from Cheraw S.C.

Sean Gilbert was easily the biggest bust in franchise history. Two first round picks for a guy who got 131 tackles and 15.5 sacks in five seasons/64 games. Yes, we gave up two first round picks for him, picks that became Ricky Williams (who was traded for an entire draft to the Saints) and Shaun Ellis.

For comparison's sake, Damione Lewis had 91 tackles and 12 sacks in four seasons, and he didn't cost us any picks at all.

Dwayne Jarrett, Biakabatuka was one of the best RB's ive ever seen before he blew his knee out, Ray Carruth was awesome until he killed his girlfriend, Kerry Colbert always sucked:nono:

The fact that we drafted Biakabatuka over Eddie George still blows my mind... How did a pro football team ever mess up a pick that was so obvious to the rest of the planet??

I still am in complete shock that people would consider EB & AE busts this early in their careers.

I will definitely agree though that EB cost way more than what should have been paid (in terms of trading a 1st round to get him). He was supposed to be ready by this year, and while he has improved, it's pretty clear he's not there yet. 10 more pounds this off season, and if he's still at the same level of production next season, then by all means, bust his ass O_O

EB & AE as "biggest draft busts" in the short history of the franchise I think might be due to the extra salt in people's diets that comes from losing :( If we were 6-1 nobody would give a poo about Brown or Edwards this season, even if they weren't contributing to begin with.

Anderson, Bruce Nelson, Jason Peter, Keary Colbert, Dwayne Jarrett, Shawn King (95 draft, 4th pick in second round),

Drafting idiots: Carruth (murder), Chris Terry (Wife abuse), Dwayne Jarrett (DWI master), R. Anderson (drugs), Kerry Collins (heartless racist).

Kerry Collins was not a racist. Look up the guy that punched him - the dude was out of control and the other teammates present (including WFNZ's Frank Garcia) agreed it wasn't warranted. Blown completely out of proportion. He also took us to the NFC championship in the first year and took the NY Giants to a Super Bowl, so I'd say he was a pretty decent draft pick when you compare him to guys like Leaf, Akili Smith, Schuler, Alex Smith, David Carr, Harrington, Russell, etc.
