Matt Moore sure was pissed off after that Rams game

I'm one of the most hated members on here because I think Moore is a good QB and not as bad as everyone thinks.

Others disagree which is fine and they state their reasons and there are debates and some get heated but whatever.

Then there is the CD and some others that either know nothing about sports and just like talking, are trolls, or just like to post for comedic purposes.

You'll realize who some of the better posters are (not saying I'm one of them) and it'll all be good. Some of the posters I respect the most are some of the guys I disagree with the strongest.

I basically stated in another thread that Moore was set up to fail due to the playcalling and lack of coaching for the team this year, and got called a homer for it. Do you laugh as much as I do when you read the comments like that directed at you?

I think this because of how he played when it was HIS team.

This training camp - through preseason - through the first two games... that was when he was the undisputed leader of his very own NFL football team. Not the backup coming in late.. not the rookie getting a shot...etc.

As the man with all the marbles on the table, he folds to pressure.

tbh, people are much harder on PFFL than they are on RealDeal. Not that it means much. I also get lumped into homer categories, though now it's for Moore instead of Clausen, ahaha. how quickly things change.

I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone that would argue the offense looks good minus Matt Moore, which is basically what you're saying I think, Raskle. We may look better with Peyton Manning but I think we'd still be losing way more than winning, and hell, what team WOULDNT look better with P. Manning? heh.

I think it is fair to say you can't expect him or anyone to do well with our offense, but I don't think that's intentional on anyones part (which is where I disagree with you, because saying he was "set up to fail" implies intent - I don't think there was, just lack of faith in him).

edit: RE: what JPJR said, I would say what I have seen from Moore so far as a starter from the beginning of the season concerns me, but I'm not ready to write him off as a terrible QB and incapable of success because of it - but I do think he has no chance to really succeed here and I have my doubts he'll be back.

He was never the undisputed leader of this football team.

Second he had a great camp.

No one did anything in preseason.

Game 1 was bad.

Game 2 wasn't terrible and we still had a chance to win.

But at least you have some reasoning for it. I still think he is too young in his career to say that but who knows.

I guess Rivers doesn't have it either? He's never done anything in the playoffs and he's had arguably the most talented team in the NFL the last couple years.

Like I said, there are only 6 active QBs with a SB ring (starting obviously).

PFFL is a little more out there than me though, you gotta admit that. You are one of us now. No fighting it.

bit unfair to compare Rivers to Moore, tbh. Rivers has done far more in his career to date - he has been given more opportunities but yeah. Chargers players are quoted as saying things like "we never give up because we know as long as Rivers is playing we have a chance." You don't need to win a superbowl to be considered a good quarterback, but you need to do more than play backup relief in two seasons and flounder when the team gets "turned over to you." It's still waaaaaaay too premature to say Moore's career is over though. give him time. he'll get time here, and likely elsewhere if he isn't retained.

also, just because I support a Panthers player doesn't mean I'll make threads proclaiming their greatness or other crazy poo. You guys are welcome to believe what you want about Moore, I just don't think we can say he's TERRIBLE AND DONE FOREEVEERR right now. Unable to get it done right here right now? Sure, I could accept that, but I'd also say the same is true of any QB on our roster and nearly any other.

I wasn't trying to compare the two one bit but was trying to see where we draw the line on intangibles. Rivers is a great reg season QB but hasn't done anything in the post season with arguably the most talented team in the NFL over the last 4 years (It helps to have a cakewalk to win your division, up until this year at least).

His team/offense were set up for him to succeed. He had a top 7 WR and the #1 TE, a RB who could catch and make plays out of the backfield and a nasty defense. Our team is set up to run and take shots downfield. Add to that the fact that this year we can't run and we are in trouble. People forget what Moore did with a solid run game and solid oline. That is more important than what he was on the depth chart before the season.

Do we label him as not having "it" because when the regular season ends he folds? Do you get where I'm going with this? He could have the same problems as Moore but they only show up in the postseason when it matters because in the AFC west, regular season is like playing with backups (up until this year).

No?

Okay.

Oooh.. rephrase then, sorry. I just believe that Fox n company poo the bed this season with their coaching, and the lack of change has finally completely and utterly caught up to Fox this year. Didn't mean to imply he was grinning like a madman thinking of how he could fug this team over or anything as such, lol.

I'd like to believe that Fox wants wins as much as any of us do, but between his stubborness and Davidson's lack of "inspiration" (I guess that would be a good way to term it...), the playcalling hasn't been up to snuff enough to allow our offense to do anything but suck this year. That's what I meant by "set up to fail." Incompetence has bred ineffectiveness, which has led to backbiting, disharmony, and general nastiness from both the fanbase and what appears to be starting on the team as well. EX: Moore's actions v. Rams, Stewie's comments on "holes" in the line, etc.

Basically, the calls aren't getting it done, which leads to players not getting it done, which leads to the team not getting it done. The only thing that has gotten done this year, is the ending of our season, imo.

Rivers accomplishments that show he has some of "it" even if not all of "it" aside, Moore's intangibles are the least of our offensive worries.

snip

yeah, actually, that is what I agree with... I also think our FO was ... unreasonably confident in what we had on O for whatever reason that can be discussed in another thread. when presented like that I agree; some part of me doesn't like hearing the term "set up to fail" because I think it's intentional. I just misunderstood you, so!

Not a prob man :)

I just thought it funny that I got called homer cause I felt like our coaching staff let us down. I'm not saying it's not Moore's fault at all, just that the majority of the blame shouldn't rest on his shoulders (and in direct correllation, Clausen's either).

The thing that pisses me off the most has been, and still is to this day, the inability or unwillingness of Fox to adjust to anything week in and week out. Halftime means more of the same, weekly gameplans don't seem to extend past the first series, and I still can't understand how in God's green Earth we can't pull off a single trick play, or disguise a blitz after over eight friggin years of coaching!

And for Peaks sake, the TE has the ability to go over the center of the field where the Mike has vacated for coverage and actually catch a ball! We never do this.. we constantly lose to this. After the length of his tenure here, you'd think Fox could catch on to this fact. :(

The only comparisons I can think of is that they're both currently starting QBs in the NFL and they've both played organised football in the state of North Carolina.

True, but once they swapped states, it has been no comparison. If I were Rivers and heard this comparison I would laugh, and not shake Matt's hand again after we play again. If we had Rivers, we would have a .500 record or better
