Matt Moore sure was pissed off after that Rams game

I don't blame Matt for a lack of effort.

I think he plays the position well. All else equal better than Clausen at this point.

What I blame him for is a clear lack of leadership.

This was HIS team this year. Not Clausen's, not Smith's, not anyone elses.

He set the tone along with the coaches through camp.

There was never a sense of urgency or any visible demonstrations of leadership.

It was alwasy "understated" or "calm" or "quiet"... as if those are admirable traits for a leader.

I thought Matt played a great game against SF but it was exactly "who he was". A non-leader who can play the position as a game manager when the pressure is off but is not going to be the personaility to take a team to the super bowl.

I think that Moore is an ideal backup in this league and I don't say that in a negative way. He can come in and move a team down the field when his number is called. He will be in the league a long time and will make a lot of money.

I honestly dont understand the "clear lack of leadership" statment. What should he be demonstrating and how?

I also dont understand the "no pressure" statement either. There is "pressure" to perform every day and every week, at every position. If not, you'll be watching games next season from your couch.

Please explain how there is no pressure.

He said himself that the pressure got to at the start of the season being the #1 guy. That was after the San Fran game and before he gave another away to the Rams.

all i'm saying it's unfair to clausen and moore......evaluate them when we have a productive running game, a solid game plan and play calling, and receivers being on page.

the problem with Jake was even with the running game being beast he stilled threw costly ints.......this is a different story with Matt.....as we saw last year he tore it up with a running game(vs vikings 09).you can't truly evaluate these guys according to this year it's just stupid.

I'm pretty sure others have said Moore is not as "fiery" as some QBs, like Jake. Take what you want from that.

While I agree that run game, OL, and playcalling are all HUGE issues... turnovers do matter. Remember last year when we actually had a functioning run game and arguably some decent play calling? Turnovers are *killer*. Not saying it should all fall on Moore - I mean, hello, Smitty had the most costly turnover yesterday - but ALL turnovers are bad, and Matt's were bad bad bad, even if they weren't solely on him.

Turnovers CAN be killers. But not always. Every team would love to not turn the ball over, but the fact is turnovers are a part of the game. They scored 3 points of Matt's 3 INT's. I will take that all day. The other "KILLERS" are dropped passes, fumbles, penalties, and taking sacks, to name a few.

Turnovers don't have to result into points to kill you. It stops any momentum you may have going on offense. It hurts special teams with field position. I'll take back the 12 turnovers Matt has caused.

Moore has not looked good this season... but who has? the QB is the face of the offense, and he is going to take the heat. it's how the position works. is it fair? I think so, but that's another debate entirely. He throws the ints, even if the receivers are running the wrong routes or the ball bounces off a helmet or a hand or whatever. 10 interceptions this season can not all be explained away as not his fault at all(and I'm not saying people defending him claim they can be). They fall on him.... that being said...

Moore has been at very least good in many of his games throughout his short career. He has looked terrible in many games this season, but so have Smith, Williams, Stewart, Gross... and I would argue they are each some of the better players at their position in the NFL.

Our problems go so far beyond the quarterback position it isn't even funny. At one point I enjoyed arguing semantics, but it comes down to this: Moore is not playing well and neither is anyone else on the offense. Though I have my reasons for thinking we will move away from Moore this season still, I think that calling him completely terrible at this point is more than a little unfair. He may not be good enough to lift our crappy offense, but I honestly think very few QBs are.

I disagree with some of your thoughts but I do like your logic. It is much more than I can say for some who just spout off out of the side of their neck.

Good post. I think if you look at his career numbers in starts only, it would be hard to find very many QBs in this league that have those type of numbers, even with some of his bad games this year. People will be surprised that if/when he gets run out of town how good he will be in another city. Moore finds a way to leave all doubters with their foot in their mouths. He did it in college and he has done it so far to his predraft critics (Can anyone name a QB that has played better than him in that draft) and will eventually do it here/somewhere else. The problems go deeper than Moore and we will realize that if/when he leaves.

The more I think about it, the more I think they will re-sign him. They know what they have in Matt Moore. They know they have a young kid who has all the attributes it takes to be successful in this league. He has made some poor decisions this year. Not half as many as a lot of people are saying. If you go back and watch the games, series by series, he has played better than anybody else on this offense, which doesn't say a whole lot. But it seems to me that he is damaged goods when it comes to fan support here in Carolina. It is sad, but true. There are plenty of teams who need a QB. I also believe the Panthers will bring in a vet QB because Jimmy Clausen is not going to be a very good QB in the NFL, which is also sad, but true IMO.

Saying the pressure got to him and saying there is no pressure are two different things.

Yes, pressure can get to him. Okay. SF game there could still be pressure but now he isn't letting it get to him.

See the difference?

Never mind there is no chance you see the difference.

What was he supposed to say? The truth, which was "Well, if he hadn't removed me after 7 quarters, things might have been different."

Does anyone watch these games? Matt Moore sucks! He has 2 quality wins in his pro career, thats it. It took him almost 5 quarters to beat a San Fran team with 1 win, that he had two weeks to study and you people think he's Payton Manning. After the melt down during the Giant's game he has no confidence.
