It’s possible that all 31 teams could pass on Moss, given that whatever team claims him on waivers would be subject to paying his $6.4 million 2010 salary prorated over the rest of the season. Of course, with no salary cap in place, overpaying for Moss may not be a big deal.

Judd Zulgad of the Star Tribune reports that the Dolphins and Seahawks have expressed interest. The Dolphins would want Moss simply to avoid letting the Patriots get him (what, you thought Miami was looking for someone to mentor Brandon Marshall?). The Seahawks flirt with every potential big name receiver.

Jason La Canfora of NFL Network says general managers are telling him Moss will likely clear waivers and wind up back on the Patriots.

It is rumored that the Redskins are interested (they’re involved in every wide receiver rumor these days – probably because, aside from Santana Moss, they don’t have any decent wideouts of their own). Shockingly, the Colts have been mentioned as a possible suitor. But Moss would be a disaster in Indianapolis, as he’s such a stiff, imprecise route runner. No way could he be eased into Peyton Manning’s complex, timing-based passing attack.

The Chargers seem like a possibility, though they’re about to get Vincent Jackson back. Plus, Malcom Floyd’s bum hamstring will heal at some point. Both of those players are better downfield targets than Moss.

A dark horse team could be the Chicago Bears. Jerry Angelo and Lovie Smith are both on the hot seat and could be desperately looking for a spark for Mike Martz’s offense. Jay Cutler is one of the best deep-ball throwers in the league. Plus, the Bears could get Moss to share with them everything he learned about the Vikings system over the past month.
