So Hugo is the new Jacob, Ben his #2 and Hugo makes it to the church where Ben says no I will stay outside and eat a snickers.

Did Ben kill Hugo?

I think the key to all that is Christian saying 'everyone dies...some before you some long after you' and 'there's no now...here'. Everyone's dead but time doesn't exist in the alt/flash sideways/whatever, so even though Charlie died years before and others died years later they are all there at that moment. Hell Hurley could have lived for thousands of years like Jacob.

My only gripe that I continue to argue with co-workers is that the writers just abandoned the island. It's like it never even mattered. You could take that ending an plug it anywhere in the series and you get the same thing. Take that ending and put the characters in any setting and it's all the same. The writers knew the ending all along and knew things wouldn't be explained. They just kept piling it on until they had nothing left.

The only way I'll concede that the show was completely character driven is if the island itself is considered a character. Take Locke - he's an interesting character on his own with getting conned out of a kidney and paralyzed by his father, but add in the island curing him and the way he reacts to it and you have an extremely interesting character. The same can be said for everybody else.

Oh well. It was an interesting show and about as much as you can ask for from a purely profit driven network. It is what it is.

Yep. I get the idea the ending was thought of either at the end of season 1 or 2. Total laziness in writing. Or, Dharma, time travel just a smoke screen to cover their tracks(writers) so nobody catches on.

Because we all were into the characters and the mystery of the island and time travel and it was all for naught.

The ending was written before the pilot aired. It was originally just going to be a drama on an island, but in order for JJ Abrams to sign on, they had to go with a more Sci-Fi approach, and have a definite and more interesting story to tell.

The DHARMA Initiative is explained by the way. And Time travel was used by the writers to eventually get them back to the 70's and blow up the hydrogen bomb, creating the alternate timeline (purgatory).

And I understand people want to know what the island was exactly. I felt the same way. But that wasn't what the show was. The show was about the characters, which is why week in and week out if flashed back to their lives before the island was even known to them. The island, the DHARMA Initiative, Good vs. Evil...all of these were simply devices the writers used to make the show more interesting, and to allow for interaction with the characters.

"It only ends once, anything that happens before that is just progress."

Ben and Hugo lived a long life after Jack died being the new Jacob and Richard. They eventually passed the torch and died. Everyone made it to the flashsideways/purgatory at the same time however. Ben didn't kill Hugo....seems they likely worked well together on the island. Ben stayed outside eating a delicious snickers b/c overall he was an evil mofo and failed all his tests b/c of his choices.

Ben stayed out cause those weren't his people. He had to go "wake up" Alex, her mom, and probably other people that were with him on the island. He may have been the next Desmond so to speak in that terms.

Well, it may have been about the characters to the writers, but it's complete bullshit to me.

Think about it this way. If the island itself was a real island, and none of the weird poo every happened on it, and it was basically a modern day gilligans island.. would it have been the same show?

Hell no, it would have been awful. Nobody would have watched it. So being "about the characters" is about the dumbest excuse I've heard for that terrible ending.

The writers had no idea what to do with the show once they wrote themselves into all that poo. You can say that it was planned, but the only part I'll buy is about Jack dying. The writers stalled that show and changed where it was going so much that it's obvious they had no idea what they were doing halfway in.

Whatever, it just sucks. Started out as a great show. Continued on as a good show. And ended as a bad one. Such is TV.

Here's some game changing questions.

If Locke was a candidate why didn't Jacob make him protector as soon as he landed on the island? Locke was drinking the island kool aid from day 1.

If Jacob chose the candidates because they were flawed and alone then why did he approach Kate and Sawyer when they were kids?

Why is Micheal trapped on the island but Sayid isn't?

    • Super raw, not sure he is worth a top 10 pick.  Primary a pass rusher.  A bit like Burns, very fast athletic but doesnt always follow the play.  His highlights look good but when you watch him play you can see he is just raw and needs to develop
    • Personally, I am not sold on Bryce yet--and I do not think anyone is saying they are, but I don't think Ward is on table when we draft anyway.  Not even sure if I would rather have him than one of the later QBs.  I see a lot of potential in Allar, Nussmeire, Rourke, and even Hamilton from Ohio State--Milroe is intriguing, but I am not sure he is an NFL QB.  Ewers is that sleeper who falls and becomes a solid starter. I think that we sign a veteran who has played and we draft one of these project QBs. To your point:  With that in mind, I think you have to take QB off the table in round 1, and if Bryce can string 4-5 games like KC together, we still need to draft a QB in round three or so---I really think Rourke is a great fit for this offense--he is accurate and gets the ball out quickly---he impressed me vs OSU.   Reason?  I think we may have a tough decision to make about Bryce in 2 years--will he be worth $60m?  That decision is a lot easier if you have been grooming a backup for 2 years who can play. In round 1: I am hoping for PSU's edge Abdul Carter In round 2:  I would like to see us grab a DT who can rush the passer.  Walter Nolen of Ole Miss is versatile and a bit raw. I think he could be an excellent complement to Brown. In round 3:  I would love ILB Danny Stutsman from Oklahoma.  He is a beast. With 11 picks, I would package our 4th rounders to move up into the third round and take a QB.  At the moment, I think Rourke is trending upward and he has the skills Canales seems to want in a QB.  Quick processor, quick release. I would use the fifth rounders on OL.  I know that I left out WR--however, we are getting Thielen back, XL will be improved, Coker will be improved, and Moore has been surprisingly good.  Sanders (TE) has been more than expected in the passing game.  I think we need D more than WR, and maybe we can get a veteran WR to sign or find a hidden gem late.
    • Wouldn't be surprised if he starts a couple Jets games this year with the way the Rodgers thing is going. Giants fans are pissed they didn't keep him lol. He might actually have a little bit of a market.
