Lost!!!!!

Well after watching a second time I appreciate it for what it is. I just wished they would have thrown a little bone in there for the island. The final scene with Jack's father Jack could have ask 'what about the island' and the response could have been as simple as 'it's a special place that takes people where they need to go'. That's all it would have taken for me, just a little snippet of acknowledgement. I was never expecting, or cared about, every little mystery in the show.

I was thinking they could have had Walt in the flash sideways to explain how he's 'special' but I guess it didn't make sense for him to be involved in Jack 'moving on'.

Overall it was a great show with a great ending. You couldn't ask for better closure.

Here is how I sum it up for me. Emotionally I was satisfied, intellectually no.

Why even bother with Jacob and the MIB for a full episode? I'm trying to still gather my mind on when some went BACK to LA. Was that part of purgatory or did they really go there?

Unlike A Sixth Sense where at no time did Bruce Willis talk or interact with other people, the folks on the island in flashback/sideways seem to have talked to other people.

I normally don't nit pick a film or show. I'm very good at knowing what's at stake going in and can leave alone.

I don't feel duped but alot of disappointment knowing what the writers were capable of and it going the route it did. Yes it was a great ending for a great show. But not the RIGHT ending for that show IMO.

I think tarheel asked what I would have liked to have seen. Some has to do with the island, some with time travel(again, why bother if they are dead?). The more I think about the more the Dharma stuff and time travel was simply a smoke screen to get us of the writers trail of ending the way it did.

Still a great ending. Just left me feeling incomplete.

Ok, I've sat on it for 24 hours and I've come to the conclusion that I still don't like the ending.

Was the ending horrible, no. Was the ending great or even good, no.

What this ending was is a great movie with a so-so ending. Which, to me always sucks.

This was Seven but instead of the killer cutting off Pitts wifes head and mailing it to him in the desert, Pitt and Morgan catch him and call it a day and everyone lives HEA.

This was Heat, but instead of going for one more bank robbery and getting into the best gunfight sequence ever, they all retire and just walk off.

This was An American Tale only Fivel gives up looking for his parents and turns to a life of drugs and alchohol and gets caught in a mouse trap.

There was just so much more, this show didn't have to have a good ending. It could of had an all time great ending. That is why I hate it, why even go to so much trouble if you are just going to half-ass the final 2 hours?

I don't think they could have come up with a worse ending if they tried.

I wasn't looking for, nor expected, many real answers in the finale. I felt going in that they had pretty much already answered most of the mystery related questions they were going to throughout the season. And that the finale was just to wrap up the character storylines, and let us know what happened to everyone. After all, there was no way they could ever explain most of the mysteries in any way that would be generally satisfying to the fans….and they knew it. So instead of giving some lame explanations, they chose to let some of the mysteries remain a mystery. And I’m fine with that.

And for all but about the final ten minutes, I thought the finale was great. However, I think they took the cheap and easy way out at the end. This entire season, they took you down a path to expect something to happen to the characters, live, die, stay stuck on the island, whatever. Then just gave you a most unsatisfying explanation that they were all just dead, and all this sideways stuff didn’t really matter at all since none of it was real (everything that happened on the island was real, but not the sideways world – or purgatory as it is better known). Basically, the ending made the entire final season worthless…and nonsensical.

It was also probably so unsatisfying for me because they had been so clever in how they crafted the bulk of the series, but this was far too simple of an ending and not up to the standards I had come to expect. No twists, nothing to make you think or wonder, and nothing to give you a sense that everything was leading to something. It was just kind of blah.

Had a 5 hour drive to think about the ending. Best thing I could come up with is the Island was Jacobs idea/plan for people to go until they was ready to move on. Hurley created LA after he received the powers.

You've clearly already come up with that theory, and the writers didn't have to come out and explicitly say it. Again, anyone who thought any episode of LOST would answer all of their questions is just fooling themselves.

Sure they did. Huge became the new Jacob. Likely had an easier go like Jacob's mom since he didn't have to worry about a MIB type. Ben was his #2 like Richard was for Jacob. They died a long time after Jack did. Also, it was hinted Hurley would send Desmond back.

I'm pretty sure Christian tells Jack that they all created the alternate reality so they could meet each other before moving on. Hurley didn't single-handedly create that LA.

But yes, the island was a way for Jacob to find a replacement, and also to help fix people. The people were brought to the island in order to find a way to repair themselves before they died so they could move on into the afterlife.
