You know you have leadership problems when your OC is Steve Smith.

Well I think after yesterday it's become a little bit clear who is calling our offense.

The answer: The guy who can bitch the hardest to get his way. So far this season that man has been Steve.

I faulted Clausen for not throwing to him, and I still do, because I don't believe a rookie should ever take it upon himself to "teach" a vet lesson, but you know you have a problem when you have Steve Smith waving his arms in the air, bitching and moaning. ..then immediately after the said bitching, he gets a pass thrown his way no matter the situation....

Then he proceeds to take his frustration out and show everyone how he's the man by causing a personal foul last week, then getting the ball, just to draw the attention of the entire 49ers defense to pile on him even though the play was over and he no longer had the ball.

End of result - fumble, we give the ball away, and any momentum we had gained right back. Then if that wasn't bad enough......he does it again the following week!

Awesome!

I'm just wondering what would happen if a player did that on a team coached by Vince Lombardy......

PS: 80% of this is sarcasm.....not really.

Look, here's the deal with Smitty. He came into this league as a nobody and worked hard to become a somebody. He played head and shoulders above other receivers to be considered one of the best in the league.

He's led the league in receiving yards and touchdowns. He had the best TD celebrations of the decade. He made game breaking plays and miracle catches.

Four years ago, he looked like a future HoF player. Then Jake got hurt and a season went down the tubes. Then Jake came back and Smitty pulled a few miracles out to win games, the Jake went down the tubes the next season, washing away yet another year.

And now, ownership flushes the year, the coaching staff decides to mail it in, and as Smith enters the last quarter of his career, he's surrounded by a team that either doesn't care, doesn't know how to play or is just waiting for their ticket to another town. And his team, where he is THE star, is a laughingstock.

He's frustrated, fed up, and realizes that there's no reason to try and put this year's team on his back and carry them forward. And what could have been a Hall of Fame career is fading, getting dim as the years progress.

Yeah, he's pissed, he's dejected and he's got a quarterback that can't figure out the difference between "get me the damn ball every snap" and "at least frikkin' look at me on every passing play".

Oh yeah, and there might not even be football next year.

I'm going to side with Smitty on this one. He's been sold out like the fans have.

Ya it's not like steve smith is blaming himself for the bad game but blaming Matt Moore instead...o wait..

For me personally I let my teammates down. I played horribly," Smith said, beginning what would become a torrent of self-flagellation. "Probably one of my worst games in my career. Offensively, the loss goes on me. I didn't help us win.

"I take full responsibility on screwing things up. Didn't play well, didn't play at a high level, and it was like for a few plays I messed up, it was like they played with 10 men on the field."

So you fault Clausen for not throwing to someone you're basically saying doesn't deserve to be thrown to?

I agree and the Steve Smith posts that he is the problem are hilarious. Smitty is the least of the problems on this team. The guy just wants to win games. He is not yapping to throw it every time, and why is it nobody does fault Moore?? The guy throws him the ball when he is doubled and never looks his way when his is wide open. Now the fumbles need to stop and he did drop one that could would have resulted in a big gain but lets not start with blaming the woes of the Panthers on Smith. I also do not think he stopped trying. It looks like to me he is still playing hard. He is still blocking on run plays and made nice block on the Lafell TD.

Moore turned it over 3 times, Smith once, Smith dropped 2 passes, Moore missed badly on about a dozen. Yep, Smith's fault all the way.:mad2:

Smitty was waving his arms around cause he was wide open in the end zone.. throw the ball to him and it's a TD..

I have to agree with Khyber... and The Saltman who pointed out Smitty is putting the blame on himself, not bitching about other players..

let's work on our ability to decipher what we see on the field, fanbase.. k? ;)

Smitty has a poor game and freely admitted it. He is not the problem. I wish everyone would take on the blame as he did. There is plenty to go around.

    • Compared to last year I see a shred of light at the end of the tunnel. Last year the team was bad and getting worse. Bryce was a bust. The o and d were terrible. We traded the #1 pick to the bears for said bust. Now Bryce is Hopefully turning the corner.  We might have 3 rookie contributors on offense.  No future has been mortgaged and we have our 1st pick plus the 2nd Morgan stole from the rams.   But the d still sucks
