Best/Worst Horror Directors???

Zack Snyder (Dawn of the Dead) and Stephen Hopkins (The Reaping) both made great horror movies, but I wouldn't label them as horror directors.

Here's a question: How much credit do you give the directors of The Blair With project?

Great idea because it made a ridiculous amount of cash for what they spent on it or great marketer / crappy moviemakers?

"Blair Witch" is included in Bravo's "100 Scariest Moments" (forget where, in the top thirty, I think) and a lot of the people commenting on it thought it was real.

The original plan was to do some documentary style footage and interlace that with the "in the woods" stuff. Instead, they took the documentary stuff and made a "Curse of the Blair Witch" special for the Sci-Fi channel that many felt was scarier than the movie (probably should have stuck with the original plan).

For my part, I wasn't scared through most of the movie, but the final scene stayed with me for a while.

Whether you're a fan or not, it's hard to deny that the movie has had an influence. Movies like "Paranormal Activity", "Quarantine" (and its counterpart, "Rec") and "The Fourth Kind" have copied the style of the original Blair Witch. And of course, the way movies are marketed has been influenced a lot.
